Description:

Set sail with confidence and style to points unknown with this classic Omega Seamaster stainless steel men's automatic chronometer watch, a highly accurate timepiece that's as comfortable negotiating deals in the boardroom as it is navigating the breaking seas. It's also a great diving watch, with water resistance to 300 meters (1000 feet), screw-down helium release valve at 10 o'clock, and easy-to grasp rotating bezel--even with wet suit gloves. Definitively masculine in design, it features a large, round silver stainless steel watch case that blends brushed and polished surfaces and measures 44mm (1.73 inches) wide and 11.5mm (0.45 inches) deep. This watch includes an aluminum unidirectional rotating bezel silver with black engraved ten-minute marks (in large Arabic numerals). p The royal blue dial background is accented by a Geneva wave pattern and it includes large, luminous Dauphine hands (with seconds hand) and baton dial markers, as well as a window at 3 o'clock for the automatic date display. Other features include a screw-in caseback, screw-locked crown, 44-hour power reserve, and scratch-resistant and glare-proofed domed sapphire crystal. It's completed by a silver stainless steel link bracelet band that offers polished highlights, which is joined by a secure, push-button clasp. This adjustable band measures 7 inches in length. p Originally created in the 1750s, the first chronometers were clocks that were accurate enough to calculate the longitude of a ship's position. Today, the chronometer label is bestowed upon timepieces that have undergone precision tests and received a certificate from the official COSC (Control Officile Suisse de Chronometers) regulatory organization that rigorously tests and certifies (or fails) watch movements for chronometer status. p bAutomatic Watch Movement/bbr An automatic watch is self-winding, and its movement has a reserve that must be at least partially filled prior to being worn. This is done by shaking and winding the timepiece manually. In order for an automatic timepiece to keep a reserve, it must be worn daily for 8 hours of active wear. p bThe Omega Story/bbr The Omega watch story begins in 1848, when founder Louis Brandt began hand assembling key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen in his principality La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the northwest corner of Switzerland. However, the Omega name didn't appear until 1894, after Louis Brandt had passed away and his watchmaking traditions were taken over by his sons, Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt. Omega watches have long been associated with glamorous screen and sports stars--the Omega Seamaster is famous for being the watch of choice for James Bond--with current ambassadors including Pierce Brosnan, Nicole Kidman, tennis player Anna Kournikova, and swimmers Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe. p But Omega is more than just a fashionable watch. In 1965, the Omega Speedmaster chronograph was "flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions" as the only wristwatch to have withstood all of the U.S. space agency's severe tests, including passing grades for extreme shocks, vibrations, and temperatures ranging from -18 to +93 degrees Celsius. The greatest moment in the Speedmaster's history was undoubtedly 20 July 1969 at 02:56 GMT, when it recorded man's first steps on the Moon's surface as part of the Apollo 11 mission. Today, Omega is known for its rigorous testing of new movements, cases, and bands. Each new Omega movement is tested on the wrist in existing Omega models, while various laboratory tests are conducted to determine temperature-resistance, shock-resistance and vibration-resistance.

I purchased the 2255.80 directly from Amazon, not through a 3rd party. The watch is widely reviewed all over the net and is a masterpiece, so I'll comment only on the specific characteristic of purchasing directly from Amazon, something I debated at length (again, not through a third party, I bought directly from Amazon):
br /
br /In a nutshell, the watch comes exactly as it would from an authorized dealer (AD) but does not come with the warranty card you'd get from an AD which allows the watch to be serviced by Omega should anything go wrong. Instead, you'd ship back to Amazon. I figured the probability of something going wrong with the watch within the first two years was incredibly low anyway, so it made sense to purchase from Amazon, where the savings was an order of magnitude greater than most ADs. The piece itself was flawless with all correct serial numbers and red dot intact on the caseback.
br /
br /In the future I would again purchase a fine time piece from Amazon because the savings is incredible and the watch itself comes exactly as it would from any other AD source, just with different warranty characteristics you're unlikely to have to use anyway.

Stays to within +1 second a day, even fully wound or near the 44-hour power reserve
br /limit (although I've seen it unwind fully in 48 to 50 hours, amazing). There is plenty
br /on the web concerning Omega watches, the Seamaster series, Omega caliber 1120, and the ETA
br /2892-A2 movement (with 23 jewels as modified by Omega). Not bad for a Swatch Group
br /watch! Don't let the Rolex's fool you; they're very good, but you get more bang for your buck
br /with Omega. The 'grey market' pricing through amazon is brilliant, and I have a local
br /jeweler who can service the watch as if it is under Omega warranty. The clasp does get
br /a bit scratched up, naturally, and the bezel is uniquely somewhat hard to turn,
br /but it works well when needed. This watch ROCKS!! and is a nice complement to a good quartz watch, like Seiko or Citizen.

Ordered this watch for a graduation present. Can't beat the price what was listed against any retail. The watch is great, however, there were some black stains in the box, due to the barcode rubbing against it. But I was happy with the watch and so is the receiver!

Absolutely wonderful timepiece. Watch came with Chrono Certificate and Pictograms card (No IWC as Amazon states). Arrived on time and in mint condition. The felt does get slightly smudged from the barcode but is pretty easily wiped off.

I received the whatch in time and in good conditions, HOWEVER with NO
br /DOCUMENT that guarantee its authenticity and with NO CERTIFICATE provided by the seller. I will take the watch to an authorized seller to be sure about its authenticity. Unfortunately I received no document that justify this expensive watch. - Luciano Reis.

I purchased this watch new and directly from Amazon thinking that it would guarantee the best quality. Well, the watch was in excellent condition but the white felt inside was dirty. A real shame for such an expensive item.
