I really enjoy this watch and I agree with all of the pro's of the other reviewers. It's well built, solid, and wears well everyday. I'm usually pretty abusive with my watches (drops, scrapes, salt water, sweat, and the gym) and I have intentionally punished this watch to see if it lives up to all the hype. So far, no scratches on the band or mineral face. With some soap and water, this thing cleans up quickly and looks new again.
br /
br /Although, I don't know about the negative review about the LCD being dim. I haven't had a problem thus far and if using the backlight, the LCD is visible in all lighting conditions (pitch black or blindingly bright).
br /
br /And an additional plus, my girlfriend loves the fact that it has a very smooth surface and well rounded edges. She used to complain about how my watch band would scratch her when we held hands and such, so this is something to consider if you have the same problem. Not a complaint yet!
br /
br /Love this watch, love the styling, and would buy it again if I needed to.

I have another GShock watch at home - all digital - and it's held up very well (even the band) throughout its past 5 years of wear. I wish I could say the same about my Timex Ironman watch (see my other reviews to read about it). The Ironman's band split at the buckle hole I use daily. Timex bands tend to specifically fit only certain Timex watches - they're not interchangeable and they're difficult to find replacements for. This GShock represents my new "durable watch" choice after a lot of online browsing and research.
br /
br /The Pro's:
br /
br /This new one is from Casio GShock's "Street Rider" series. To drive home the point (no pun intended), the band has a way-cool tire tread appearance to it. Overall, I'm happy with the watch. It's light-weight and doesn't look bad on my smallish wrist. I can't tell you how well it actually keeps time but my experience with Casio watches has been very good with that respect. There's no stem to pull out and turn to adjust the analog hands - you do that with the buttons via a special LCD menu mode. The really neat part of this is the minute hand only "ticks" every 20 seconds and does so in perfect unison with the LCD's seconds display. So, when the LCD time says it's 1:00:00 exactly, you can be certain the minute hand will always be directly on the analog minute marker. The LCD does have a backlight which causes all 3 LCD areas of the face to glow a bright turquoise. The hands have a luminous glow of their own but this fades like all glow-in-the-dark materials, requiring exposure to an external light source to charge up the glow again. The face is a very dark green which makes the hands stand out nicely. The crystal is a genuine mineral crystal (not cheap plastic or even mere glass) which is very durable and typically will not scratch even under rigorous treatment.
br /
br /The Con's:
br /
br /This watch has a negative LCD display (white numbers on a black background). I deliberately picked this one over an almost identical model sporting the typical black-on-white LCD display because the negative display was more visually striking. Unfortunately, a negative LCD tends to reduce the legibility of the digits unless you're almost pointing the watch directly at your face with the right amount of light bouncing off it. Of course, you could use the backlight in especially dark circumstances. The analog hands will sometimes cover the digits, again reducing legibility of the LCD. The band is very long - good for a large wrist but not for mine. On the plus side though, it was very easy to snip off the tail end of the band so adjustments were a non-issue.
br /
br /Summary:
br /
br /For under $80 this watch offers a slew of features (a lot of them, audible). It's a GShock so you know it'll take a lot of punishment and outlast anything else strapped to your wrist. I wouldn't consider it a dress watch but I feel comfortable wearing it daily, on the job. It's light on the wrist and not exceptionally bulky (despite its appearance). The two-toned brushed-steel-and-black case looks great with the tire tread band. The instruction manual's "Care of the watch" section actually mentions how it's okay to use this watch while scuba-diving or using a chainsaw. In fact, their whole "care" section seems to be a description of what you wouldn't want to do wearing a normal watch.

Nice watch. I'm a big fan of the G-shock series, they're very durable watches. This watch replaced a G-shock I had for 15 years that the original battery lasted 14 of those years. The watch can take alot of punishment.

I needed a watch with an analog/digital combo in order to determine the time quickly but still have an alarm, timer, stopwatch, etc. All in all, this is an attractive watch. The negative LCD might not be as clear as standard but I haven't had any problems reading it. The circular second-hand display is rather superfluous as each tick indicating one second is very small and not easy to read so I just don't try. It is definitely well built with a mineral crystal lens which is difficult to scratch and plastic guards around the lens to further keep it from harm. The minute hands moves one fifth of a minute every 20 seconds so the analog part is always in sync with the digital part which is kind of neat. All the functions work just fine although the alarm/timer tone is so faint and lasts for only about 5 seconds so unless the watch is totally uncovered and there is only a little background noise, I can't hear the alarm go off. My only other gripe is that while the the digital part and the seconds display lights up with the backlight, there is no way to keep it lit for more than two seconds and it won't stay lit while changing functions so if you're in the dark and need to use the timer, without knowing how many times to hit the menu button, you would need to hit menu, then light, then menu, then light, over and over until you found it. Speaking for someone who needs full functionality in the dark, this watch looks nice but doesn't fit what I needed.

When looking for a watch I needed something that was durable for work and looked nice enough to wear anytime. This watch met all my expectations. Besides looking great it has all the features you could want in a watch, stopwatch, multiple alarm settings, daylight savings time setting, water resistant, shows the day in worded or month/day format. The only bad thing I can say about this watch is because it uses a digital readout and analog hands for the time sometimes the hands will overlap the digital readout. However, if you can't see the readout, just look at the hands! There's never been a time that I haven't been able to determine the time clearly on this watch. The digital readout is always readable in any light, and the analog hands glow in the dark. This watch is a great buy, you won't be dissapointed.

I think this is the most attractive analog-digital G-shock available. Functionality of the watch is as described, no disappointments. I chose this particular model because I have a small wrist and the watch is relatively small among G-shocks. The size of the watch was as expected. The only reason I did not assign the watch 5 stars is because the negative LCD screens are not as legible as I would like. Readability does not hinder functionality but it is a feature that could be improved.

I purchased this watch as a gift for my husband, and he absolutely loves it. He needed something durable for work and this watch is perfect. He loves that it's lightweight, and since he works nights the backlight enables him to view the time perfectly-no problems. Great watch for the price.

Great watch. It has an excellent feature set (independent analog and digital time keeping, time for different cities from around the world)it looks very stylish while still being a rugged G-shock watch. Also pretty comfortable and light for its size.
br /
br /Small gripes I have so far are that the wrist band seems thinner than it should be. Analog watch hands cover some the digital displays and can make them hard to read.
br /
br /Overall I'm happy with buying it though.

I bought this watch so as not to mess up my 'evening' watch so to speak. This watch works great for hiking, camping, fishing, and everyday knockaround use. It has rubberized bolsters in all the right places to absorb shock and deflect it away from the face. The backlight works great in my book, stays on just long enough to not drain the battery too soon, and give you a quick glimpse at time/date. The small, round second hand feature is of little use, only the best eyes can see it, but you still have the digital seconds reading. Most of us, don't pay attention to seconds that much anyway. All the various features work great. And one thing I like is the non prescence of a winding knob...the one that sticks out and gets beat up and turns a different color. You set the hands on this by 'protected' buttons. The strap was a little long for me, made to fit all the way up to King Kong. No problem, I just trimmed it with my knife and it doesn't stick out or look crappy. Good Watch , Good Value.

This watch is comfortable, full featured, attractive and well built. I find the analog and digital displays to be very readable and the backlighting is excellent and cool looking. It is a little thick for office wear but its conservative styling means that you can wear it in many venues and it has a low geek factor. Overall it is an excellent value and I have no reservation about recommending it to anyone looking for this style of watch and these features. I deducted a star for the following minor issues
br /- can't see day and date at the same time
br /-the function buttons require an inordinately deep push
br /-the hands occasionally obscure the LCD display
br /-the strap doesn't articulate so you have to lay the watch on its side

This is a really cool looking watch with full of features. Great price for what you get. I especially like the 200m water resistance, good for diving. I also like having both analog and digital display on one watch. When you got the stop watch going on the digital display, you can still see the time on the analog hands.
br /
br /The only minor glitch I noticed was that sometimes, the analog hands get in the way of the digital display, like when you have the stopwatch going and it's say, 11:05. The analog hands partially cover up the digital display, so you have to tilt the watch around to see. I guess that's the disadvantage of having analog and digital.
br /
br /I still like the watch a lot.

a solid choice overall. it appears to be durable (i'm a contractor and it's held up well for the last couple months).
br /my complaints stem from the analog clock portion: i've yet to figure out a way to set the hands on the clock backwards. so, if the hands read 12:00 and it's actually 11:45 then you have to move the hands forward almost 12 hours, and if you overshoot it by a couple minutes then you'll need to hold down the advance key for for a couple minutes while it moves the hand clockwise back to where you want it to be. i haven't thorougly read the instructions, so there might be a trick, but it doesn't operate the same as the digital clock where you can move forward or backward minute by minute by using the two keys on the right.
br /my other analog-related complaint is that the analog clock doesn't keep very good time. right now my clock reads 2:00pm and the analog key is at 2:07. pretty ridiculous.
br /lastly, the hands are often in the way from reading the digital time.

Great watch! Great look - just happened to see it on someone else the other day on the subway, and it looked great. :) I've had it for several months now and I've had no problems. The functions are great and I love how there are both analog and digital times. Was worried that the darkness would affect my reading of the time, but that's almost never a problem. I've also never had to readjust the time yet - great accuracy. Highly recommended!

Used so many casio's over my life time and this one a very well built model. I already fell on it once, slammed it on a wall a few times(all unintentional) and not even a scratch or any signs of wear and tear as of yet. The digital part of the watch is nice in the dark when you can't see the analog hands you just hit the light and viola. I would recommend this watch to anyone who is into construction or heavy duty work or just plain old daily usage where you want a watch that would last you a very long time.
br /
br /Only con this watch has is the strap, Its fixed in the shape of your wrist unlike other watches where you can lay it flat on a table, this one is curved, if you don't mind that, its the watch for you.
br /
br /Best of all its got style.

I got this watch last week and once out of the box it put me off:( It appeared dark and not properly viewable....BUT then my view point changed, as i started using the watch it grew on to me and now i LOVE it. The "darkness" that i saw was really due to the time of the day, i was opening the box at dusk without lights..
br /
br /Its a great everyday watch. The reason i gave it 4 stars because its a little big for my wrist, which is tiny. But overall i am happy with the purchase.

I'm very happy with this purchase. I was a little hesitant about the long-term durability of the band but having worn this watch everyday for the past month I can see that it was made to last. It's great having an attractive timepiece that will withstand all the wear and tear you can give it.
br /Without complicating itself too much, the watch offers a variety of features, more than I'm likely to get around to using. The most commonly used by me is the stopwatch feature for measuring the lengths of my jogs, though I will say, in all fairness, that the size of the digital display makes it difficult to read while bouncing along on a run.
br /Bottom line: Great watch, unbeatable price. Highly recommended.

This is a nice watch because it has digital and analog time keeping functions. There are three alarms, a stopwatch and a timer. The band is pretty comfortable and is easy to adjust. The only downside I can really think of is that I don't really use the analog face because it is just easier to look at the digital time.

The watch was a nifty little thing i bought to replace my broken one. First off it is pretty rugged. You can do a lot of stuff to it and it will escape unscathed. I wear it to work and there is a moderate amount of manual labor involved in a wet environment and so far this thing has held up quite nice (about 3 weeks now) It was a world time feature which isn't necessary but it's like a cherry on top. It displyas the date (monthin/day) as well as the day of the week. The hands of the clock are pretty accurate and change every 20sec and matches the the digital impecably. The light up feature doesn't last too long but long enough to see the time (about 2 sec). The watch face is about the size of a quarter, the thickness of the watch was a bit dissapointing at first. It was a bit thicker than what i was led onto believe. It is about 4-6 quaters thick) But it didn't become a problem after i got use to it. The best feature of the watch in my opinion is its near indestructability. THe only thing i would have liked is a lower price. I bought it for 60 dollars but then again i just might be a cheapskate. Good quality, short term, and as well as long term.

Solid, well built watch.

This is my 7th. Casio watch, and they have never, never disappointed me. You can't go wrong with a Casio watch, (unless you are into most expensive name brand types), but for everyday use and long lasting wear; this is the one.
br /You must read the manual to get acquainted with the functions, since it may be confusing at first. Once you learn how to operate it, then it becomes easier to program. It fits right and has a firm grip on the wrist. the price was right also in comparison to department stores that sells this same watch for over $89 bucks.

This is a great watch, with a great look, and a ton of features. As I travel a lot, I like having the multiple alarms, timer and time zones.
br /There are only a few things I wish were better on it...
br /-Overall, I thought the face would be bigger. It is still very readable, but I got the impression it would be larger.
br /-No way, that I have found, to have the backlight on while adjusting time/alarm. Kind of a pain if you want to change your alarm in the morning without turning the lights on.
br /-I wish you could go either direction with the hand setting mode. You can only adjust forward, so if you change timezones (say right coast to left coast) you have to go forward 9 hours, instead of back 3. It does have a feature that you can latch the hand movement on, so you don't have to hold the button the whole time. Just watch out and stop it when you get close, or you'll be setting it again after you blow by your time!
br /None of these items have been deal breakers for me. I bought it as a work watch, something that would be functional, hold up to abuse, and still look good, and it has worked well for all of this.

First this is a great watch, I did lots of research to try to find the best bung for the buck, and this is exactly what I wanted, I do a lot of outdoor hiking, kayaking and staff, so a shock and water resistent is necessary for me; besides the digital and analog design is very cool, IMO.
br /
br /I way going to buy a Casio pathfinder but I don't have that much of $ now, this is a good choice though. The watch itself is not that big, it's perfect size, however for those who have a thin wrist it could be triky because the band is too long.
br /
br /And Amazon, as always, delivers great service! The estimate shippment arrival date is Apr 10th, and I got it today at Apr 8th, surprise!!
br /
br /I highly recommend this watch and Amazon.
