There are products, good products, and classics. This is one of them. Tested by time, selled and worn all the world over in all kind of activities from common to extreme, this watch simply won't let you down. The explorers of those old National Geographic Rolex Ads would have worn one of this if they had the chance.

THIS MODEL DOES NOT HAVE DUAL TIME??? I have had this exact same watch for many years, finally having to replace it. For some unknown reason, CASIO dropped the DUAL TIME feature. WHY?? All of the other features are still available and no new features were added, so why did they drop a very useful feature for travelers. Even their cheaper ($15) watches have dual time, so it cannot be an expensive feature. Just does not make any sense to delete features from one of the most successful watches ever designed. A little disappointed in CASIO!

This is THE one! Back to a more minimalist time. This beauty shows only the time, date, and day. Rugged as can be, so retro it's...it's...why, it's perfect. Everything a watch should be and less. Reminds me of my first Casio - probably one of the first digitals to hit the market. Very hard to find anywhere else. The price is right!

You can't beat this Casio for the price. This is the second one I purchased. The first one was getting pretty beat up (8 years) and the cost to replace the bands was about half the watch, so I just got a new one. This is an all purpose watch and it truely takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
br /
br /This watch keeps great time and has all the important features for me; date/time on easy to read display, good illumination for night viewing, alarm, event timer and rugged design. This watch has performed great in the water as we swim a lot in the summer, both in pools and beach. Never a problem with leaking even after replacing the battery. Good seals!
br /
br /I'll most likely buy another one after I beat this one around.

I bought one of the early G-Shocks in the 1980's... and it lasted through 2006 -- over 20 years. The plastic outer case finally started to deteriorate... and oh yeah I tore or lost the strap retaining loop about 10 years ago (no big deal just put on a tie wrap and kept on wearing the watch).
br /
br /To put this in context, I use my sport watches for sailing, boating, diving and snorkeling (usually in salt water) ...and most other watches have lasted only 2-3 years. The amazing thing is that I never replaced the battery on this original Casio G-Shock -- it just kept working until the casing finally went.
br /
br /Only slight disadvantage for sailing races it that it doesn't have a synch feature for interim starting signals. But other than that all the functionality that you really use is there *and* you don't have to read the instruction manual to figure out the watch... user interface and buttons are straightforward and obvious.
br /
br /Classic bulletproof sport watch -- highly recommended. I'm searching for a yellow one just like my old one, and will buy it immediately if/when I find it (may have to settle for black though).
br /
br /One other thing -- I'm a lefty and unlike other watches, on the Casio G I never had a problem with accidentally tripping the buttons -- as is common when you wear a watch on your right wrist (reaching up and back with your hand can press the watch buttons against your upper arm and on some watches this causes a button-press).

I think they stopped making these because the calendar programmed into it goes back to 1995. Nonetheless, I have never had a better watch/stopwatch/chronometer, etc. And it has the fade-out "indiglo" thing that is better than previous models. Best of all, when in stopwatch or countdown mode, a box at the top shows real time. No other watch I know of has this simple yet essential feature. Completely durable. Since the previous one of these I owned went 10+ years on the original battery, and I do not know when this one was manufactured, I have no idea how long this one will last, but I know I will wish I had bought two. The price is right, and I got a $[...] rebate for signing up for an Amazon credit card. My only problem, at 50, is that sometimes my arms are not long enough to read it....nor any other watch smaller than big ben. A personal problem, I know.

This is the 2nd or 3rd Casio G-Shock watch I have owned over the past 18-20 years. Too bad that the bracelet/watch band isn't as tough as the watch.
br /
br /The only issue with my recently purchased ( May 2008) G-Shock is the fact that the chip--or firmware-unsure of the proper terminology--will only support the calender portion of the watch until December 2009 It is too bad that Amazon.com's product description does not state this. Had I been aware I probably would have purchased a different Casio model.

My first Casio sports watch lasted about 30 years so I thought I would try the g-shock watch. All works well except the button for the 'adjust' mode. The button is permanently depressed and is not easily used. You must use a sharp point, like the tip of a pen or stylus of a PDA, to push this button. This is NOT easy or convenient when you're out using it. I called Casio and the rep could not tell me if this was to be expected, normal or what. Otherwise, it's a great watch. Just keep a pen or one of your fingernails long and sharp to be able to use this key function of the watch.

This watch is indeed durable and has performed greatly while kayaking, hiking, and playing sports. My favorite characteristic of this watch is its size. I have skinny arms and therefore find most watches way too large and/or heavy. They often look awkward or cannot be tightened to the right fit. This watch is great because it is not very large but plenty big not to look like a lady's watch. The wrist band tightens well to prevent sliding around. The only negative aspect I have noticed is that I easily feel hot and sweat under the watch; however most non-metal watches are this way from my experience.

Great watch at a fantastic price!

I have many watches much more expensive that this model of the G-Shock. However, it seems that I always reach for this watch first. Why? It's pretty close to being 'bullet-proof.' I don't worry about breaking it and if it should happen to get damaged, $40 get me another watch. In terms of style and size, it's clearly designed as a men's watch. That being said, I like the size and fit of the watch. Lastly, the quality of the watch is outstanding. A great value. I highly recommend it!

Sadly, my 20-year-old Casio G Shock watch has finally died. I bought it for diving in 1988, and I've used it so many times over the years. Since I'm a woman, I was teased for wearing such an "undainty" watch, but when you use it for sports/outdoors, who's looking to be dainty? I highly recommend this watch, and I'm surprised that something good is still being offered! If you're looking for a quality, economical, tough watch, do not hesitate to buy this one!

As you get to be my age, it is difficult to find the products that defined a category still in production. The new replacements often have modifications that in my mind make them inferior to the originals. Sometimes it appears as though the new product was designed by someone who has actually never used one in "real life." Typically, I am forced to access the pre-owned market to get what I want. Not in this case. The Casio Men's G-shock Classic Digital Watch is very similar to the watch that replaced the stop watch, the dry land and not-so dry land wrist watch, and alarm clock a couple of decades ago. It has just enough functionally to be truly useful - time (24 or 12 hour), date (helps when filling out those forms that are becoming part of daily life), alarm (for those early morning activities), stop watch (for that interval training necessary to retain some of the speed of youth), and a couple of other things that have slipped my mind :-) all in a small and durable package. Good, inexpensive, tough, useful watch.

br / I bought the original DW5000 in late 1983,i think the price was 40 dollars. In those days it was something new, some people even left their rolex home and use this g shocks, the only thing bad was the band and i put a seiko ruber band on it.This watch took a lot of abuse even in deep water diving and it was realy an incredible watch but in those days they have a stainlees steel case, now they are plastic cases, thats the reason they keep the price so low.I wish they still had stainlees steel cases, they were real watches then. Its still a very good watch for the price but i miss the old g shocks. It realy look the same, these watch take me back in time, anyway for 30 dollars i might buy it for nostalgic reasons.

The G-Shock hits the spot perfectly in all ways. I used to compete on a regular basis in West Coast open water meets and would sometimes row marathons for hours. The watch was my guide. It has been functioning perfectly since 1989 and I foresee no end in sight. It might outlast me.
br /I don't think I think my Rolex or Baume Mercier would be able to be so rugged and reliable. A real watch for active people in activities which require stamina and endurance. I have used it in road rallies over the fancy chronometers. It might last longer than I.

Wow, nice to see that I can still buy this one! Seems like the stores were only stocking the "HUGE" variety of G-Shocks with all sorts of nonsensical features like altimeters and barometers toasters and whatever else they could think of.
br /
br /I like this one specifically for its:
br / 1) lower profile, less bulky than more modern G-Shocks
br / 2) limited features
br / 3) ease of use
br / 4) the thing can no doubt take a pounding
br /
br /I wore my last one for over a decade and replaced the strap like 2 or 3 times until the rubber around the main faceplate finally gave way.
br /
br /I'm putting my order in for a new one today! ...I might even get two just to have a spare.

However this rectangular model DW-5600 E1V is the the one I like the best.I have used it for sports as well as for parties and officewear. It looks great. I have owned Casio watches and they have lasted for more than 15 years. They are much better in durability However I have found that chaning batteries is little cumbersome.

No, I have never spent two-thousand dollars for a watch. But I have spent two-hundred. The best watch I have ever owned? This Casio G-Shock - the most recent of which I "stole" for the ridiculous price of thirty-eight dollars. I use all the features. I want for nothing that it does not have. OK, so I switch to a classier looking watch for important social functions; but the best watch I have remains my Casio.

My first exposure to a G-shock was in the engine room of a USN destroyer, on the wrist of a gas turbine technician while we were standing the midwatch. "That watch looks tough," I said. "I don't know...let's find out," he replied, then took it off, picked up a rubber mallet and started pounding it like a madman. It bounced around on the deck plates but never cracked or broke. I was sold.
br /
br /This watch looks identical to that watch but is deficient in a few ways. The second time zone feature is gone, and perhaps as a result the functions of the buttons are rearranged in a way that feels screwy. New purchasers of the watch will probably like it just fine. Users who bought the old version for $25 twenty years ago from the commissary will have the unpleasant feeling of talking to a best friend who's been lobotomized.
br /
br /It's still a solid product--excellent for all manner of outdoor activities (though too thick to fit inside a standard dress shirt sleeve cuff)--but I'm frustrated with Casio's poor headwork in redesigning it backwards.

The very first Casio watch I had was a 50M dress watch, resin. When I saw a G-Shock advertised for a ridiculous price at a local discount store I determined to get there. Dropped off after work 15 miles away, I forded a 4 ft. deep stream, clambered through a patch of thorns as tall as me, and got hit by a car taking a 'shortcut' to the sale. The store tried to tell me they were out (because the paper had the wrong price) but I wasn't going anywhere without a watch. They finally relented and I got my G-Shock for a real bargain! And it took whatever punishment I gave it. From operating chain saws to cross-country running through mud and dust my G-Shock perservered. Always on time, stop-watch and alarm always ready, there was never a more useful tool in my essential survival kit. I bought it in 1987 and in 1995 I gave it to a homeless man, still running. That was one durable timepiece, it took the most beating of any of my half-dozen G-Shocks. I definitely recommend this series of watches.

This is my favorite G-shock watch, it is not atomic, not solar....but the battery lasts years and the watch is just about indestructible. The band keeper will go, but you can replace that with a cable tie....if the watch is in the water and sun a lot eventually the case plastic will crack....but this watch keeps on going....it is not gaudy like some of the Casio watches...it's appearance is understated....you could get by wearing this watch anywhere....buy it...you won't be sorry

This G-Shock, my first, is a great introduction to these tough and highly functional Casios. It isn't as bulky as the other G-Shocks, (at 5'7" and 155 lbs, I don't have the wrists for those), and it's so comfortable that I sometimes need to remind myself that I'm wearing a watch. The LCD display is clear and seems resistant to glare, the bezel is cleanly designed, and the strap complements it nicely. The default time/date screen displays what most people would need, and there are a surprising amount of other functions for a watch of this price. Considering the easy entry price, you can't go wrong with this watch.

Awesome...it works.

This is the same great Casio watch that we've bought for years, but at almost half the price as in retail stores. It's basic, yet it has everything the average person needs and the display is easy to read. If it's like the other two G-Shocks we've owned over the last 17 years, it will last a long time.

I've bought a number of these watches over the years and have found them to be a good functional and sturdy watch. The style and size is masculine. The life span of the watch band is around 2 years. The battery will last between 4-5 years. The watch itself with normal wear and tear around 8 years. I will continue to buy and wear this watch as long as Casio makes them.
