Bought the watch from Amazon Sunday evening and it arrived on Thursday evening with the 5-day delivery service. I've had it for a few days and I am extremely happy with it. I also own a Rolex Submariner, Breitling Chronomat, Omega Seamaster Chrono, Citizen Nighthawk, and some assorted Casios and Timexes. This Seiko automatic watch ranks just a hair below the $2000+ Swiss watches, but for under $200, it's an unbelievable value. The quality and workmanship are excellent for a price in this range. For example, the second and minute hands line up exactly with the hash marks; when the second hand hits 12, the minute hand is algined precisely with the minute hash mark. Wow, I've seen $1000 Swiss quartz watches that don't do that. The assembly of all the components look top notch. The rotating bezel has a precision feel and the click-stops align exactly with the hash marks on the dial. The alphanumeric markings, Lumbrite markers, and hands appear of high quality. Seiko's cost savings is in the omission of hacking of the second hand, but slight backwards pressure does stop it for setting the time. Also, the black-on-white day and date although easy to read appears to be imprinted on cheapy white plastic. The bracelet has solid stainless steel links, but the weight and chrome finish are slightly on the budget side. The watch appears to run fast by about 1 second each day, which is pretty good for a mechanical watch since I had a Timex quartz with an analog face that ran fast by about the same increment. I love the orange face and chrome bezel with recessed, black painted numerals and hash marks. The watch supplied by Amazon came with a Seiko box, instructions and warranty and does not appear to be a gray market watch. I saw the watch for cheaper on eBay but they were coming from overseas, so I paid a few bucks more from Amazon located in the US. All in all, I am very satisfied with this Seiko watch and Amazon service.

A fine precision instrument

From the moment you first hold this watch in your hand, you realize it is a quality timepiece. The first thing that strikes you is its large size and heavy feel, yet despite that, it feels comfortable on the wrist due to its fine balance.
br /
br /BRACELET:
br /The bracelet end links (those that attach to the watch case) are solid rather than formed sheet metal like you will find on most other watches in this price range. The pins holding the bracelet to the watch are the sturdiest I have ever seen. Each of the bracelet's subsequent links is also made from a solid piece of steel, not folded sheet, each component being feather-edged to prevent it digging into the wrist. Its removable link pins are of an unusual machined pin and collar design which, though fiddly to remove and replace, nevertheless ensure that the pins remain under-flush and secure when correctly installed. The bracelet is perfectly flush on the side that contacts your wrist making it feel very smooth during wear.
br /The clasp is very high quality, having both a fold over security buckle, which deploys with a satisfying click, and an Omega style double button catch. The security buckle closes onto a spring pin whose ends are spherical thus ensuring a tight fastening which should not wear with use. All in all these features add up to a watch that is very quiet on the wrist, the only faint sound coming from its automatic winding mechanism.
br /Finally the bracelet incorporates a clever hidden diver's extension (to allow the watch to be worn over a wet suit).
br /
br /CASE:
br /The watch case, back and bezel are made from stainless steel. The case has an attractive mix of polished, brushed and machined finishes which all add to the feel of quality and function. The overall impression is that this is a precision instrument rather than a fashion piece; that's not to say though that it would look out of place with a dinner jacket any more than a wet suit.
br /The unidirectional bezel is of a heavily scalloped design, protected by bezel-guards which extend upwards from each of the lug pairs. The lower guard also functions as a crown guard and, all in all, the impression is of a case machined from a solid billet of steel. The bezel sits slightly higher than the domed crystal, thus providing protection from scratching and the crystal itself is of a proprietary Seiko material "hardlex" which, as I understand it, is better at resisting scratches than mineral glass but less susceptible to shattering than sapphire.
br /The luminosity of this watch is astounding due partly to the use of Seiko's proprietary "lumibrite" paint but also to the large coated areas on the hour markers and hands.
br /The bezel only turns one way, as a safety feature for timing dives, and feels silky smooth, the best I've experienced on any Seiko or Invicta diver. It has 120 clicks per revolution and is nicely aligned with the face.
br /
br /MOVEMENT:
br /The watch uses the 21 jewel Seiko 7S26 movement running at 21,600 bph (that's 6 ticks per second). It is non-hacking which means that the second hand does not stop when the crown is pulled out. Although this makes it difficult to synchronize, if a slight backward pressure is applied to the fully extended crown, it is possible to stop the second hand. The watch can not be hand wound but the self winding mechanism is very efficient and I have found that it has a power reserve of at least 24 hours. The 7S26 has been around for many years and has a reputation for ruggedness and reliability.
br /
br /ACCURACY:
br /There are several reviews where people complain of poor accuracy. Typically, when new, automatic movements will be set to run fast at the factory because they tend to slow down after a few weeks of use. I own three watches with the 7S26 movement and after their breaking in period all are now keeping time to within 10 seconds per day.
br /I have a few thoughts on accuracy. You have to ask yourself how accurate does your watch need to be? If it is running 10 or 20 seconds fast per day then set it one minute slow and you will only need to re-set it once every week or two when it has advanced to one minute fast. If you need more accuracy then, unless you are willing to pay at least five times as much for a swiss watch, then buy a quartz.
br /
br /Finally, if you do a search on the Seiko Monster you'll quickly come to realize that in its various colours, these watches are firm favourites amongst those who frequent the many watch forums. I would highly recommend that you purchase one and see for yourself!

I've had a lot of watches in my life. Some dressy, some functional, and some practically indestructible. This watch is a combination of all these factors. Very solid feeling (and much heavier than my titanium dive watch). Looks great and functions well. I also like the wetsuit link which allows a quick adjustment to fit over your wetsuit. The orange face is very legible, and at night, the watch glows almost bright enough to read by! The clasp is very secure, with a dual button release and an extra clasp to prevent accidental opening. Day date are easy to adjust and very readable (much better than my Citizen). This is a solid performing watch and worth the money!

Finally, I received my "Orange Monster". It's a beauty. I couldn't wait to put it on, so I adjusted the bracelet (this is tricky because's a new design). What a bracelet, extension and all. Only the bracelet is worth $200! And there I was going to the dark room. The luminous on this watch is something else, surpassing my expectations. I believe Seiko uses "Lumibrite" on this watch, which is a newly luminous paint developed by Seiko harmless to humans that absorbs the energy of sunlight or artificial light in a short time and stores it to emit a light in the dark. By the way, Seiko manufactures all its components. The dials says Diver's 200m and the caseback, SCUBA DIVER'S. This watch means business eventhough I don't plan on going snorkeling in a while. This is a 42mm (46.5mm including the crown)in diameter, 12mm in thickness, and 160g hefty watch. My Seiko "Knight" and "Superior" weight 170g each, the "Land Shark" 185g, and the "Samurai" 190g. So you know. The engine on the Orange Monster is the reliable, 21 jewel, 21600 vibes/h 7S26 workhorse: consistent, precise, quiet, and durable. After 24 hrs. the time is withing 1 sec. Usually Seiko's 7S26 needs settleting. I paid $195 from Watch Pavilion and it came with a nice non Seiko box, and no papers. I guess this watch is not for sale from authorized distributors in the USA. Anyways, Watch Pavilion gives you a 30 day money back guarantee, and you know SEIKO gives you 1-year worldwide + 2-years in USA. An instruction booklet, and a watch tool (to safely remove the links) was included. Summary: For the price of a brand new Rolex Submariner Date ($4,400), I could buy 22+ Seiko Diver's, watches that can last a life time.

I've had both the Orange Monster and the Black Monster for almost two years (when they first came out). I have some very nice watches (and expensive), but the "monsters" are my favorite. I use the Orange Monster as my everyday watch. It has seen duties swimming, snokeling, ATV's in Cabo, working in Bermuda, Mexico, Bahamas.. on boats and beaches. It may gain or lose a few seconds, but overall is both nice-looking and practically bombproof. The orange version is a little more bold, but don't be put off by the color. People love the looks.. and so do I. The black version is more traditional. You'll be happy with either one. Best quality and value in a mechanical dive watch.

Watch stops sporadically after a few weeks of use.

The Seiko Orange Monster at first seemed to be a well made watch. The case and band are solid stainless steel, the bezel rotates smoothly, and the fit and finish are top notch. The watched was pretty accurate the first 3 weeks of usage. I wore the watch from 8:00am to 11:30pm everyday. The watch was never used under water, and has not been used during sporting activity. It was worn just to my office work and on the weekends. However, the 7s26 movement does not seem to be as robust as described in some reviews I've read. After 3 weeks, the watch would stop in the middle of the day. I would "jump start" it by rocking the watch. Then, after a month, the watch seemed to stop for good. It would run occasionally, but only for a half hour. The power reserve seemed to be only 4-6 hours when it did work. It would stop in the middle of the night, even after I wore it all day. I'm skeptical in purchasing another one. Right now, I'm sending it back for repair through Amazon warranty service. We'll see what happens next...it's ashame because the Seiko is very nice on the outside. They need to use a better movement.
br /
br /Update: 08/21/07 - I sent this back for warranty work and I received it 3 weeks later. The movement was overhauled. I've been wearing it for 3 weeks and it runs well. I have to see how it runs long term. So far, I am pleased with the warranty work provided.
br /
br /Update: 10/3/07 - I finally sold this watch. While the band and case are nice, the movement is not very good. It keeps great time, but only if you wear the watch everyday to wind the mainspring sufficiently. Otherwise, I've had this watch stop on me in the middle of the day. Would I depend on this watch for scuba diving? NO WAY! In the end, you have to pay more for a good mechanical watch with something like an ETA2824, or buy quartz.

I'm a regular collector of diving watches and this is one of my favorite ones. There is something about diving watches that is really attractive though it could be subconscious and because of the fact that you can get it wet and it would still work. This watch feels rock solid like it just came out from a huge chunk of metal. For such a quality feel, the price is super amazing. I would have to go for my Submariner for a similar feel and on some days, I prefer the feel of this than of my Submariner! The luminated markers are the brightest I ever seen on any watch, diving or non-diving. Clasp is super-awesome, better than the Submariner. Bracelet is not as nice looking but ok. The moveable bezel has the best click of any of the diving watches I own and this is the least expensive dive watch of all but unfortunately I paid a little too much. The only downside and may not be for you if you don't adjust your bands, but if you do, it's a chore. I spend hours trying to do this and was only successful after improvising as the linking system is very unusual.

I love my Orange Monster! I got it because my friend has a Black Monster and he really liked the Orange one as well as I did, so I purchased it. I work at night and the glow in the dark markings for the digits are not bright enough for me to see well. This is the only reason I am giving the 4 star rating. Other than that the watch is large, heavy duty, nice time piece. I love the stainless steel watch band. I had to have the band shortened, but was able to do so at a local Jewelry Store and only cost me $3.oo . The orange face makes the watch easy to read and is a great conversation piece. I did not purchase the watch because of its water resistance to 200 meters, although this is a great feature. I just wanted a good name brand, with time, day, and date features. I did not want all that other chrono, stop watch, alarm, etc... features on a watch.
My ORANGE MONSTER ROCKS.

Ordered my Orange Monster from Amazon and received it in less than a week. In terms of fit, finish and weight it is an amazing instrument for the price. From the silky smooth ratcheting bezel to the stainless steel finish, this watch is a real beauty. The minute hand aligns perfectly with the minute markers. The second hand sweeps very smoothly. The accuracy is surprisingly good. The entry level 7S26 movement is rugged but not well known for tight regulation. So far, it gains about 5 seconds a day. I realize this is shear luck as the final adjustment at the factory was right on the money. The slightly concave mineral glass crystal helps avoid scratches. Yes, I have a radio controlled Casio watch synched to the atomic clock in Colorado but such accuracy is a "techno gimmick" rather than a necessity. I have discovered the charm of mechanical watches. The Orange Monster is accurate within a minute and this is just fine. One caveat: I sized the band myself and its very tricky. Even experienced jewelers my not be familiar with the pin and collar mechanism which joins the bracelet links together. Before resizing, google "resizing the orange monster". The articles are very helpful.
br /To sum up: the Orange Monster is a hefty, shiny, well constructed, eye catching timepiece well worth the price.

It had been a few months since I purchased this watch and posted a review. It didn't take long before I got frustrated by it running fast by 25 seconds A DAY so I sent it back to Seiko. They fixed it pretty quick and it now runs like a champ. The accuracy improved dramatically. It is within a second per week when compared to the NIST website.
br /
br /Is it acceptable to have to send your new watch to be tuned up? Of course not. Despite that aggravation I am totally pleased with it now.
br /
br /Because it is now an actual "timepiece" I revise my earlier rating to 5 stars. (which the site will not let you change)

I own both the black and orange monsters. The bracelets cannot be beat for quality and feel. I have some very expensive swiss watches and the bracelets on the monsters are every bit as good. If I am going out at night, and want a dive watch on my wrist, the monster is the first choice because of the brightly lit and long lasting luminous hands and markers. The orange monster always gets compliments and it looks every bit as classy as the black monster. Yes they are heavy, but the quality of the bracelet and the mix of polished SS on the cases is very attractive. If you do not want a heavy watch look elsewhere however !

I have had my Seiko "Orange Monster" for a few months now, and I have come to understand why it has such a following. First, why orange? There are allegedly technical reasons to make diving watches with orange faces - I'll leave those for serious divers and, perhaps, physicists. An orange watch face is amazingly bright. If the treatment of the hour markers and hands is done correctly, there will still be good contrast and consequently, ease of reading the time instantaneously at a glance; this watch face is done right. The luminescent markers are large and the 6:00,9:00 and 12:00 o'clock markers are distinguished by size and/or shape so that even in total darkness at 3:30A.M., you will be able to pick up and orient the watch correctly to read the time. Like all externally-charged luminous watch faces, these markers fade during the night, but in complete darkness, I have literally awakened at 4:30 A.M. and still been able to read the time without effort. This is in part due to the excellent luminous substance used, and in part because the hour- and minute hands are large and of radically differing shape. I have tritium-luminous watches on which the hour and minute hands' illumination is of identical width and almost-identical length. In the fog of disturbed sleep, it takes the brain a few seconds to interpret subtle differences. The "Monster's" luminosity, though not as bright as tritium after a few hours, is still much easier to read!
br /
br /Next, what about accuracy? There are about 86,400 seconds in a day. As noted by one source, if a watch is 99.9% accurate, it can be a minute and a half "off" after 24 hours. Think about this and you will appreciate the phenomenal accuracy of quartz watches. These Seiko mechanical movements are mass-produced by machine, and they are nowhere near as accurate as even a "middle-grade" quartz movement. What can you expect? I have two older-style Seiko divers which use the same mechanical movement, although supposedly an earlier "A" version. The worst of these consistently averages a 7 - 9 second gain per day. The other loses an average of 4 - 6 seconds per day. Newer watches are supposed to have a "B" version of the same basic movement ( I have NO idea what the difference might be ). My Orange Monster has, after "break-in", averaged daily gains of 1.5 - 3.5 seconds. NOTE: I say "averaged". This is the key. If you continuously monitor your watch for gain/loss, you will go crazy. Mechanical movements vary their speed in response to motion and position. You will read reviews here and elsewhere which tell of "tricks" used to speed-up or slow-down a watch. Usually these consist of leaving the watch overnight in some specific position ( flat on it's back; face-down; on it's side, either crown-up or crown-down, etc ). The averages I give for my watches are obtained by wearing the watch normally and setting it down at night flat on it's back with the face up. This is just, for me, the natural way to handle a watch - no strategies to fool the physics of all those little wheels, gears, escapements, and levers inside the case.
br /
br /Finally, THESE WATCHES LIKE TO BE USED. Everyone mentions ( or gripes about ) the fact that Seiko's moderately-priced mechanical movements can't be hand-wound. The watch must be wound-up by the "automatic" mechanism. Normally this just naturally happens when you wear the watch - if you wear it enough hours during the day ( come on, gentlemen, at least eight! ). Before you can begin to even think about measuring accuracy the watch must be FULLY-WOUND. Then, it will exhibit a 36 - 40 hour power reserve, and show some consistent pattern of timekeeping. Don't buy this watch and put it in a drawer. If you own only one automatic watch, and wear it every day, you will be happy with it and it will never stop unexpectedly. If you own more than one, get a winding machine.
br /
br /I am completely satisfied with my Orange Monster thus far. It's bright face gives it a "presence" on the wrist that other watches just don't have. Since it seems to run a little fast, I set it one minute slow and by the end of the month, it is one minute fast. Better than expected. More than this, the automatic movement is somehow alive in a way that quartz watches can never duplicate. The second hand sweeps rather than jerks. Also, ( if this appeals to you ) you have the satisfaction of knowing that the watch on your wrist, though mass-produced, is just a little different from every other....

I Dig The Orange Monster! Black, not so much.

I purchased this watch from Amazon Prime to replace a quartz Wenger. First of all, I was very impressed with the overnight delivery for only $4.00. Secondly, I like this "automatic" (self-winding) better than any watch I have ever owned. It is comfortable (albeit heavy) and I have received nothing but complements from my friends associates. Over the period that I have owned this watch, it has gained only 12 seconds per week(very impressive for an analog watch). It has never "died" overnight and as a matter of fact I didn't wear it one day and it was still running the next. I have yet to use it for scuba so I can make no statement on its water tight integrety (I will update this comment when I do).
br /
br / The only caution that I make on this watch is the beautiful stainless band. It comes from Seiko big enough to fit your ankle. The pins to adjust the band are different than any that I have seen. They are a 2 part pin and spring collar. When you push out the pin, the spring collar (about 1/2 the size of a grain of rice) comes free. When I was sizing my band, I lost 3 of them. I recommend buying the Deluxe set with the band adjustment tool, the band removal tool and the rubber watch band. It only costs about $30.00 more and it would give flexibility to your watch plus make it much easier to adjust the band.
br /
br / In closing, I like this Orange Monster so much that today I purchased the Black and will buy the Blue if it becomes available again.
br /
br / Update: After 4 months of wear, My Orange Monster still ROCKS. The black one unfortunately gains about 1 minute per day and will stop if not worn all of the time (it is now relegated to a drawer).

For my first automatic watch, this is one beautiful watch. It's actually not too big, i expected it to be bigger. It fits very comfortably on the wrist, and you don't really feel the weight, probably because the link is well designed.
br /
br /Resizing the band isn't trivial, the band uses some kind of clasp pins, which you need to be careful when pushing out. I pushed them out with a medium sized sewing needle.
br /
br /The orange monster is truly a gorgeous watch!

I've had it for a couple of weeks now and it is great. Got it from Amazon in just a few days, it was a lot quicker than the estimated time of delivery. This watch is great, the orange face is great and makes it easy to tell the time. I like having the date, and the watch does look sturdy. Suprisingly, it isn't very heavy to have on. It is also great at night, the hands and number marks show up very well and are large. I am swithing off between this and the G shock, love them both. But for $159 this is a steal. Also like the self wind feature and the movement of the second hand. I would advise this to anyone. Almost forgot, I won't have to take this off when I go into the pool now.

Check out the watch enthusiast message boards and you can't help but stumble across somebody raving about his Orange (or Black) Monster. Looks good, solid case and bezel (bezel quality and movement as good as any I've seen), sits easily on the wrist, very comfortable bracelet...what's not to like? It has an entry level movement that's not noted for absolute accuracy, but it slows to within 2-5 sec fast a week after a few months.

For the price, this watch is just what you need, That is if you are in need of a big watch that is very easy to read day or night. I own quite a few automatic and manual wind watches and this is the easiest to read and set when it stops. My watch tends to run about a minute fast each week which is fine with me. I'd rather have it run a little fast than slow. This is a big, clunky watch that you will not grow tired of.

This a great watch that can take a beating - I am hard on watches and this Seiko divers watch can hold its own! This watch is good looking and looks and feels like a "mans" watch. Watch keeps great time with auto winding - as long as you wear it every day. This watch is a heavy watch - you know you have it on - reminds me of a Rolex I wore several years back but a "new" stainless watch band for the Rolex is more then the entire Seiko watch! I will keep the Seiko!

I saw this watch in a Seiko jewelry store and could not stop thinking about it for a couple of weeks. After hearing about it, and hearing about it, my wife decided to buy it for me as a Christmas present.
br /When it came in the mail, it was secured in its own factory Seiko box and covered in bubble wrap. When I got it out of the box, I set the date and time, put that "Orange Monster" on my wrist and I have been extremely pleased with it ever since.
br /I've had it for 3 years now and it still looks brand new. I get compliments on it all of the time, every where I go.
br /It is a "ROCK SOLID", reliable watch that I have never had a problem with.
br /I have other watches (high-end digital and dress) that I feel guilty about not wearing very much. But, I love the way this watch just feels on my wrist. It is rugged enough for deep diving as well as teaching in a high school classroom every day.
br /With a thick bracelet and a big face, it is stylish enough for everyday wear and fancy enough for black tie events. This is a "MAN'S WATCH" if there has ever been one.

I own several Swiss Watches and have always been biased towards them, until I purchased this Seiko. This watch "rocks" for diving and other sports activities. It's very reliable, attractive, cheap, and well made. I was really impressed by "Solid" SS bracelet. This watch does it all for sub $200, it performs as good as your Doxa, Submariner, Planet Ocean, etc... so save your hard earned $$$ and buy this watch for your water activities and outdoors. You hit it, scratch it, drop it, however, for the little price you paid you'll come to appreciate it more.
br /
br /Kudos for Seiko, this watch's worth every PENNY! buy one for all your activities (working around the house, Hicking, Diving, Waterskiing, whatever else you do and save your "Rollie" clean and ready for your Soiree)

It's big, it's orange, and I love it!
br /
br /I have a few other watches, but this is my "every day" watch. If I'm wearing a suit I'll go with a dress watch, but other than that this is my watch of choice. I bought a titanium watch at the same time as this one, but as much as I like Ti (for bicycles), I don't like wearing a watch that feels too light. The orange monster doesn't have that problem. This is a solid, heavy watch that looks and feels bombproof and looks like it's much more expensive than it really is. If there were one thing I'd want, it would be a sapphire crystal, but then it wouldn't be at this price point. I bought mine 6 years ago and I still wear it every day. At less than $200, it's a bargain!

I love the look of the Orange Monster...I did get the stainless steel braclet...(did not get the rubber one) You need to be a big guy to wear this watch... it is heavy. I also had to remove one of the clips on the braclet which was a bear. After removing the clip the watch does slide around my wrist a bit more than I like. (because being so Heavy) I did at first have some problems with the automatic movement. You have to shake it vigorisly to get it going. (it stop several times in the beginning) All and All I like the watch but wish it was lighter in weight.

An excellent buy at a great price. Comfortable on the wrist (after a minor adjustment to the bracelet length), accurate timepiece, attractive, and easy to read under any light. (and without light, too!) As others have suggested before me, buy this watch with the bracelet. If you prefer the rubber strap, that would be easy and cheap enough to replace at a local shop, but buying a replacement bracelet will be much more expensive and difficult to accomplish. I could wear it either way, but much prefer the bracelet. Others may have complained about the watch stopping too soon after taking it off, but I wear mine 12-16 hours each day (at a desk job) and it never stops running. A rugged, yet classy-looking timepiece. You could do better, for a whole lot more $$, but this is a great watch and a great buy.

This is a pretty remarkable value for a true automatic. Only complaint I have is that you can't self wind, but really that's not much of an inconvinience. The bracelet is solid, and overall the watch has good weight.

I bought this watch a month ago and am very impressed with it. It looks very stylish and works great. I saw a very similar seiko watch at the seiko store which didn't look half as impressive on hand and was twice the price. The dial is big and the chain is very good quality. The watch doesn;t lose time if left sitting for a day (or two) within a week.

I bought the watch from Amazon direct and paid extra for overnight shipping. Although the watch did not arrive overnight, I am quite pleased with the price, and quality of the watch. This is a must have timepiece for an Seiko or Dive watch collector, or someone who wants good quality heavyweight watch for less than $200.00. I also bought the Black Monster at the same time, and that is equally as nice. I have purchased from Amazon a few times and the experience has been good, I will continue to use Amazon unless something goes amiss. My only issue is the amount of processing time until shipment happens. And I don't mind paying for overnight if I want something the next day, but I want it to arrive the next day. That's it.

Hello, I just recieved the Seiko SKX781K1 (Orange Monster, Steel bracelet).
br /
br /It cost me $194 (including $39.00 shipping to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada). Ordered on 4pm Friday, recieved 2pm Tuesday (2 day shipping).
br /
br /This watch is built very SOLID, the crown screws down nice and tight as well. It is fairly heavy (which is nice) only 8 grams lighter than my Tissot Seastar 1000 (blue). My Tissot is a bit classier and now dedicated to special occasions.
br /
br /Very nice bracelet that fits my 8" wrist perfectly (just enough to slide around on the top of my wrist but not enough play to spin it all the way around or slide to far up my forearm).
br /
br /Some very minor things I dont like about this watch are: the bracelet tappers, I wish it just stayed nice and wide the whole way around. The second hand doesn't have that nice smooth sweep that you see in the Tissot Seastar 1000 (or look at vids of an auto Rolex). The diver deployant is a bit hard to figure out, however it will never accidentally come undone.
br /
br /There are many good reviews on [...] for the Orange and Black Monsters that are worth while spending some time to watch before buying this beautiful timepiece.
br /
br /I plan on test driving this baby for a couple of months before I buy the slightly more expensive Black Monster.
br /
br /Thank you for reading my review, I hope it helps you gain a better understanding of the quality that this watch is imbued with.

I really enjoy this watch

I already have the Black Monster and like it. I bought the Orange monster because the day/date is Black print on white and easier to see. This watch is keeping perfect time, as opposed to the black face which picke up 1-2 minutes each day. I was resetting it 2-3 times a week. I knew this would probably occurr from other reviews I read on Amazon. I like the large watch, and both are quite rugged.

The watch looks great; prominent, yet not overly large. The orange really sets off the look. The large luminescent indexes are easy to see long after dark. I also like having both day and date complications, and to find an automatic watch with these features for less than $300 (way less on Amazon) is really a find. You will need a pro to adjust the bracelet, though, as each link pin is held in by two tiny bushings that are impossible to replace without the proper jeweler's tools. Another bother is that the watch gains over a minute a day. Overall, I really like it. It's become my daily wear watch.

I am very pleased with the Seiko "Orange Monster." The watch is just as advertised. The heft and feel of the watch on the wrist it great. The back of the watch is flat and almost recessed allowing the watch to sit not too high on the wrist while wearing it. The crystal lies somewhat below the height of the bezel which I really like. I also really like the slightly concave shape of the top of the bezel. The phosphorous illumination on the face and hands is unbelievable. After 8 hours asleep in a completely dark room I can look at the watch and read the time clearly in the pitched dark. It positively glows in the dark. The bracelet is also very comfortable. I thought alot about this purchase before I took the plunge and don't regret it. I liked it so much that I bought the "Black Monster" the next week.

As an avid diver, and collector of "lower" priced dive watches ($500 or less) I was excited to add this watch to my collection after reading the reviews-only to be let down after months of ownership. The watch band is a NIGHTMARE to get sized. Three different shops and $45 later, I have a completely rigged band. The other major flaw in this watch is that it runs as much as 5 minutes a day fast!! A minute fast here or there is one thing-but this thing is ALWAYS fast. If you wear it on a boat (which divers tend to do-duh) it messes with the time, or running, exercise, etc. I find myself adjusting the time almost daily. The positives are the solid feel and orange face, but would go with rubber band. Would suggest the Pulsar Solar 4000 (for less money I might add) if you are looking for the battery free, heavy duty, everyday dive watch style. The Citizen Eco Drive Dive Watch is another great option as well. Both of which are dive tested and come through excellent. Can't recommend this watch unless you are not very active, and you know someone who works for Seiko and can size it properly.

Recieved my Orange Monster Last September. I have worn it every day. I like the look and design of this watch but unfortunatly this watch does not keep very accurate time. Often losing about five minutes a week. I have friends who also own the Black Monster and anonther Orange monster and they have the same complaint.

My Orange Monster arrived bouncing about inside its case. A retaining strap was missing which would have kept it in place, but there was no visible damage. I suspect the watch was returned by someone else and repackaged, mainly because of a scratch on the case indicating someone had opened its little sliding drawer with a sharp object.
br /
br /In any event, the watch lost FIVE MINUTES overnight, right out of the box! That's correct, I set the watch at 11 AM, checked it before I went to sleep twelve hours later, and when I looked at it at 8:30 AM the next day, it read 8:25! A five minute error in less than half a day? -- that is absurd! While the watch looks rugged and masculine, it's worthless if it isn't fairly accurate.
br /
br /Another issue is that the metal band is too large for any wrist, except perhaps a sumo wrestler's, and would require that several links be removed. Also, since the watch has no battery and is activated by motion, if you don't wear it daily you'll constantly be resetting it.

I dont understand why people fuss too much over this Seiko Monster watch when its nothing but problems. There's even a "cult following" I heard! Yes, it is a handsome timepiece that makes me look mucho macho, but its inaccuracy is just too much (1 minute a day!) its wind-up charge is only about half a day, and its crown gets all weak and flexible after about a copule of weeks. Yeah, and true to what soem people say, it does stop totally once in a while for an hour or so even if you use it 24/7. Im not being unfair in reviewing this watch bit as objective as I can. I have two other Seiko automatic watches that are (one diver the other a 5 model) that I had for about 5 years now that keep good time plus or minus only 10 seconds a day, and can keep a charge for more than two days.
