I wear this watch as my "beater." Although I own a couple of really nice watches, I'm in the Coast Guard, so I don't want to run the risk of bashing them up to the point that I wouldn't be able to wear them any longer. This G-Shock solves that work-related problem. Reliable, tough and keeps good time. Only thing I changed was removing the resin band with a significantly more comfortable (and probably longer-lasting) nylon Zulu band (County Comm sells the G-Shock adapters that allow installation).

A1 item.

This is a good all-around watch. Not for dress, but for work or the gym. Will also light up at night. Would buy again.

This is the second time I have purchased this model watch . . .it was the perfect timepiece for this presbyopic carpenter. I seldom take it off and it manages to survive very rough treatment on a daily basis.

The basics done very well

This G-Shock is one of the more basic, simple models (just 4 modes- time, alarm, stopwatch and timer) but it is a very good proponent of these features. Clear, accurate displays and easy-to-use functions make for a good all-round watch. No frills, but all the better for it.

br /Also, as I recently found out, it's the watch worn by Jack Bauer in the first few seasons of 24, which can only be a good thing. Hasn't improved my ability to diffuse bombs, however.

When I bought my first Casio G-Shock in 1987, little did I know that I would still be wearing them twenty years later. This G-Shock is #4, and I can still remember the pride on my face when I got it. That watch was the biggest, toughest-looking one yet, and I ended up arguing with the owner of a competing brand over who had the best. Experience had taught me that this was the one I wanted for hard, outdoors work, play, or just show. A G-Shock means it can keep up with you, giving reliable time and useful functions. The most useful is a countdown timer. In fact, I've retired this watch to my kitchen, where it tracks several cooking times at once. And it is still running after ten years--no new battery. It's a great watch and will go with you everywhere.

My family has owned G-Shocks for years - since the mid 1980s - and though we've owned watches at the higher and lower end of the G-Shock scale, this watch is, ultimately, all one needs from a G-Shock. Rugged, easy to read and use, and aesthetically all G-Shock. I don't know that I'd take it over a Rolex, but I just might.

Treat it like you hate it.

I've had this watch for 11 years. I work outside, typically in heavy woods and it's never let me down. I have had to replace the battery maybe 3 times but it was worth it. I've probably purchased 5 or 6 watches since I bought this but I always end up coming back to this G-Shock because every single other watch I have owned cannot stand up to the abuse of my job-even watches I've paid 3 times more than what I paid for this. Also, I'd note the price is about the same that I paid 11 years ago. So it seems the watch is an even better deal today than it was then!

Are they still making the DW-6600? I'm not surprised. I've owned mine for over four years, and it's working flawlessly despite being worn regularly during the following activities:
br /
br /* weekend bike rides up to 250 miles
br /* hiking several times per week
br /* alpine rock climbing
br /* extended scooter and motorcycle trips
br /* general thrashing
br /
br /I have a collection of fine German and Swiss mechanical watches, but I wouldn't dare subject any of them to the kind of punishment that my G-shock soaks up without skipping a single quartz-regulated beat. The only downside is that my watch is on its second band; they seem to give out before the watch does. I'm going to look into getting a new Casio from the Pathfinder series. After that, my trusty DW-6600 will get some well-earned rest.

I have owned this watch for about 10 years and it is absolutely bulletproof. I have logged probably 150 dives with this watch, I've climbed mountains, I've banged it off of walls and rocks and covered it in mud. All I've ever had to do to maintain it is wash it off and change the battery. Incredibly rugged and reliable.

This is one of those time proven classic watches that is hard to sum up in a short review. The DW-6600 just happens to be the longest running G-Shock in production, without any real updates to the design. The DW-6600 that you buy today will be nearly identical to the DW-6600 you purchased in 1994. There are very few watches in the industry that are good enough to survive 14 years of production without change.
br /
br /The odd twist to this watch's long running heritage is that most of the DW-6600's made in 1994 are probably still running strong, with just a battery change. This watch has a toughness of legendary proportions. And if the watch does ever start to show its age, spare straps, bezels and gaskets can be ordered cheaply through the Casio Service Center. Strap adapters are even available to convert over to a one-piece dive strap. If that weren't enough, steel face protectors can be ordered to further increase the watch's durability. The DW-6600 is a regular "tour de force". It's no wonder that the DW-6600 is a favorite of law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, and the military. The DW-6600 has even been officially issued to US Navy SEALs.
br /
br /While this watch does not have many of the advanced features of newer model G-Shocks, the basic features that it does have are very well implemented, and simple to use. The "Target Time" feature is especially unique and quite useful. The LCD illumination of the DW-6600 is probably brighter than on any G-Shock ever made. Button protection is very good, while still allowing the buttons to be pressed fairly easily. One button press will hot-swap you between 12 hour time and military time.
br /
br /If you are looking for something elegant and unassuming, you'd better run for your life right now. This is not a watch for dinner parties and eating small food from silver trays. Wearing a DW-6600, you'll look more at home at a roadhouse, fighting with the locals and spilling bear. The DW-6600 is an absolute beast of a watch, designed with layer upon layer of shock absorbing protection. If you want a watch that can take beating upon beating, and then ask for maybe a few more beatings, you've come to the right place.

Great mid range buy. Tried the other atomic solars, but they go blank in the absence of light!
br /
br /Just ordered another one of these, to replace my malfunctioning one. Take my advice and take it to an authorized repair shop to replace the battery when its time (which wont be for 5 or so years!!), or else the waterproofing will cease to function as mine did and go kerplooey.
br /
br /Do that, replace the straps every few years, and trust me, these watches will last forever. You'll be buried and cold, but this watch will still be ticking away on your wrist in your coffin.
br /
br /Shopped every other brand, but just couldn't bring myself to buy any other model so I rebought my beloved DW6600C1V.
br /
br /See you in another 7 years!!!

Casio is the only brand that I buy when it comes to a digital watch. Durable and the quality cannot be beat. Hands down this watch is the best. Simple, clear and tough. I've had quite a few of the G-Shocks over the past 18 years and I love this one the most. It's a simple design that looks great.
br /4 modes. Easy to program. You can beat it brutally and it's not phased. What else can I say. Casio G-shock DW66001V is a classic.

This is my second G-shock DW-6600. I only purchased this new one because the strap on my first broke but the watch still works well and is 8 years old. I am an active duty Marine and this watch has withstood some punishment over the years. It's nice to see a company that makes its products to last.

I'm in the Coast Guard, so I use this model G-Shock as my "beater." I have a Seiko SKX-173 that I love to wear, but I don't want to subject it to some of the severe torture tests associated with boarding ships and the like (always hitting my wrist against hard bulkheads...that'll screw a watch up). So, my DW6600 stands in. And the watch does a great job. I've replaced the hard resin band with a Zulu (all you need to do is to purchase adapters from Countycomm), so I don't have to worry about habitually swapping out broken watchbands. The watch keeps great time and it's dependable. For the price, it's a great buy.

I've had this watch for over a month now and I'm very pleased with it. It's my first digital watch in about 10 years and probably the most robust watch I've owned. I bought it because as a Border Patrol Agent, I needed a durable watch while working in harsh environments. So far this watch had held up to a lot of pounding and scraping. The wrist band seems fairly durable but I did paint over the bright red G-SHOCK lettering on the front as it can be seen a mile away but it's fine for civilians. I gave it 4 stars because I have noticed that the buttons sometimes have been getting pushed on their own during strenuous activities.
