If the Omega Seamaster is just out of your price range, the Bulova Marine Star will get the job done. It rivals most watches in beauty and dependability. Made specifically for the adventurous diver, this watch has both style and class. This piece of jewelry goes with any outfit, and you will have it for a long time. It can be taken down to 660 feet, which is deeper than many divers will ever go. If you have a slightly limited budget, but you still want to achieve that "Bond look", this is the perfect watch to get you there in style!

...it may be, but in terms of functionality and looks it is second to none. Not as flashy as many of the competitors, going instead for a stylish, down-toned look while keeping true to the Yacht-Marine-Diver heritage. Absolutely love it and have never taken it off since I got it. And my friends just can't belive how little it costs. My dad, who's been wearing his Rolex for thirty years started looking very insecure and "hungry" when he saw it. "So where exactly did you get it did you say? Amazon? Could you write that down for me?" Recomend this whole-heartedly.

Watch arrived in approx. one week in good condition. Nice looking watch, heavier than I expected (a good thing). At first I thought the crystal was substandard until I discovered the peel-off clear plastic. Appears to be a mineral crystal. The directions for setting the watch were somewhat confusing but I eventually sorted that out too. Watch band requires sizing since it comes in size Hulk Hogan. No directions for making band shorter, so I went to internet and tried the procedure I found there to no avail. Finally took it to a watch repair shop where the jeweler shortened it while I waited ($15). Keeps better time than my Rolex (but so does my Timex)and is easier to read in daylight and at night. All-in-all a fine buy.

I have been an admirer of Bulova watches for years. After receiving the Marine Star 98C62 for Christmas I was ecstatic. After three months the pins to the band broke. Nothing uncommon, however after the factory pins breaking I was getting the pins replaced monthly, and sometimes weekly, depending on the activities I was involved in. I finally had enough and called Bulova and they said to mail the watch in so they could hopefully resolve the problem. After sending it back after only owning the watch for 6 months I received my watch back with the hopes the problem would finally be resolved. Not the case. The very next day the wrist pin broke. I called into Bulova with my complaint and told them how unsatisfied I was. I was informed by the manager that they were aware of problems with the watch band and that the pin was to thin for the weight of the watch. I was given the option to pick another watch of my choice at no cost and was instructed to choose one with a different band. I chose the 98h25 and am hoping to not have this problem occur again. With the watch itself I have had no problems but the durability of the band has been a great disappointment, and the fact that they are willing to bite the cost to replace my watch with one of greater value really speaks volumes.

I purchased this watch after rather exhaustively reviewing the many, many offerings at Amazon.com. When it first arrived, I found myself vaguely let down. Somehow, it didn't seem quite as striking as in the photos. But as the weeks have gone by, my opinion has completely turned around on that. This watch is really very beautiful, and the numerous compliments I've now received serve as confirmation. It also appears to be extremely accurate and, contrary to some other reviews, setting it (including day and date) was not at all difficult. Do remember that it has a screw-down crown; you need to unscrew it before actually pulling out the stem. That is NOT explained, at all, in the (very inadequate) instruction manual.
br /
br /Is this equal to an Omega automatic diver's watch, which has a similar appearance? I'm sure it's not. But, then, it only costs about 1/10th as much. It very likely equals or exceeds similar Invictas as well as any similar Citizen or Seiko watch.
br /
br /I've not owned it long enough to speak of its durability. But I tend to be hard on watches, and I've already subjected this one to some small abuses. So far, it remains flawless, suggesting that they've really used top-rank materials in its construction.
br /
br /Sadly, one reason I bought this watch no longer holds true. I knew it was made overseas (Japan, I believe), but that's true of virtually all watches. I am not sure, in fact, if a single watch (including movement) is still made here, and certainly nothing that's affordable. But I was under the impression that Bulova remained a U.S.-owned company, and that they still at least designed all their offerings here. And they may indeed still do that. But earlier this year the company was purchased by Citizen Watch Co. of Japan. No more U.S. involvement save for whatever facilities the new owners decide to keep here.
br /
br /Note that I purchased this directly from Amazon.com. Shipping was as promised, with it arriving a few days sooner than I expected. I have had no occasion to test their warranty service or return policies. I could have saved $10-$15 by buying from one of the other vendors at Amazon. But that vendor had a significant number of poor reviews (I think running over 10%), and I didn't think saving a few bucks was worth dealing with a dubious vendor.

I bought this watch as a gift for my Husband. He was so pleased with it. But the best thing was the excellent buy and service that I received. I will certainly buy again from Amazon.

I received this for my birthday earlier this year and was shocked at how beautiful it was. I had looked at it on Amazon and had been considering buying it for a long time, going so far as to add it to my Wish List after my last good watch ended up at the bottom of Narragansett Bay. It was a total shock to receive it as a gift (at a surprise party no less!).
br /
br /It has a great feel and heft to it, much meatier than I'd imagined it to be, but not bulky or uncomfortable given the nature of the timepiece. If you're seeking a slim dress watch search elsewhere.
br /
br /The band has a nice feel and the polished centre links add an understated sophistication to the look of the watch without looking gaudy, forced or overdone. The fold-over band (with safety) is secure without being difficult to release and as befits a dive watch there is an over-the-wetsuit deployment clasp.
br /
br /The colour of the blue face is just right, not too bright and not too dark as to look black. The markings are large and easy to read and hold their luminosity for a long time before fading. Some reviews have mentioned that the bezel was stiff. While it may be a little harder to turn than a cheaper watch I think it owes more to the lack of a good gripping mechanism on the bezel rather than the bezel being overly stiff. Its a rather small issue that most people won't encounter, either because they don't dive or because they do dive and have a dive computer. In either case its certainly not something that should dissuade someone from buying this timepiece.
br /
br /The screw-down crown functions just as it should and has a pair of stout guards to protect it from getting knocked about. I'd like to address those complaints that I've read with wearers having a problem getting the day/date feature to coordinate. This isn't a Casio with a built-in perpetual calendar and a 24 hour set time. Pull the crown out to the second "click" and stop the second hand at 12:00 so you can synchronize the watch, establish where midnight is by running the hands around the dial until the date advances (the day will change somewhere in the neighborhood of 3AM - I'm no watchmaker so I'll assume its some mechanical limitation), set the correct time, push in one "click" to set the hands in motion and then rotate the crown one direction to set the date and the other direction to set the day. It is not difficult in the slightest. The days may be set in either English or Spanish.
br /
br /Overall its a great purchase and worthy of being worn on anyone's wrist. Speaking of which, unless you have a wrist the size of a stovepipe plan on making a trip to the jeweler or watch repair shop - the band comes from Bulova set to the largest size.

This watch is gorgeous. It looks much more expensive, and works perfect. I own a few watches, some much more expensive than the Bulova, but this has become my favorite watch.
br /Noted that the watch is larger than it appears on the picture and the blue is slightly darker.

br /
br /Fabulous timepiece that works flawlessly. Looks fantastic and looks like it is worth a lot more than I paid for it. Easy to read dial in the water and nice durable and good weight to it. The band is nice and solid as well. I did have the jeweler adjust the band for me.
br /
br /Agree with some other comments about the instructions on setting the days/date, but it's only once every month or so.
br /
br /Great watch and highly recommend to anyone. Why spend more for a great watch.

There are no major problems with the watch and it looks nice but it is not close to the glowing descriptions given by others. Setting the date, is not difficult, but coordinating the date with the correct day of the week is something I have yet to accomplish though I have had the watch several weeks. It is not like this is something I work on daily but I read the instructions when I first got the watch and don't remember anything clear about this. Additionally, I do not need to know the Spanish days, which are included.
br /
br /Would I recommend the watch, yes. Brag about it, no. Does it look like a more expensive watch, maybe. Does it perform like one, no.

Looks great easy to wear works great for sport diving. High visability undwater and on land. Day/Date for those of us that loose track of reality. This is one of those watches that you hold in your hand and know you have a great time piece. This is my second Bulova the first one I bought was 20 years ago and I am only buying this one because I love the way it looks. My first Bulova is still working great and keeps perfect time. I have a Rolex and love my Bulova more - Shhhh don't tell my wife. I bought mine at JCPenny when they ran a sale. Get this watch for about 150 or better. I had coupons and paid 129.00. I love watches and this Bulova is one of my favorites. This has been on the market for about 3 years now and is still an awsome looking watch. The Tag that looks most like this has a smaller face. Bulova has been around longer and is more reliable. Ya gotta love it at this price.

Great:
br /The dial is gorgeous. It has a deep, rich looking blue color. The picture does not do it justice.
br /
br /The bracelet has a high degree of precision in its design and assembly. I think this is a reason why many people say the watch feels more expensive than it is. Love it.
br /
br /Be aware of:
br /The watch is fairly large to begin with, but it looks even bigger because the dial and the bezel are of the same color. It looks great on large hands; not so good on small ones.
br /
br /Bad:
br /The dial window material is soft. It is easy to scratch, which is a shame, really, because many (most?) manufacturers in this price range offer scratch-resistant dial windows. I scratched it by a plastic shirt button. So, if you tend to be rough with you watches - this is not your watch.
br /
br /Conclusion:
br /Judging by the name - Marine star - you may assume it is some sort of an outdoors watch. It is not. A gentle dial makes it a strictly dress watch. However, as a dress watch, it is a great piece at a great price. I will say it again - I love it.

This is the perfect "man" watch. It is dressy and casual. The size and construction is great and the deep blue face color is beautiful. It looks great and also the fact that it is water proof and able to go so deep
br /makes it the perfect "man" watch. My boyfriend is not a watch man, but he better love it or it's going to my father.

I bought this watch based upon other customer reviews as well as the price. It is a very handsome watch and feels very comfortable during my first week of use. Until I can afford the Omega Seamaster I will be very happy to wear this watch. I have had many compliments on the watch and people are very impressed when they see it close up. The dark blue dial is a stand out and seems to catch people off guard as it definitely looks black from a distance. Close up it really makes the watch look that much more special.
br /
br /The weight is good. It is substantial and not heavy. The bracelet ships very large and I had to go to a jeweler to have three links removed (luckily they did this without a fee) using the proper Bulova tool to do so. As some of the reviews have noted, the luminous dial works well for a time but does fade. I was able to read the dial clearly during a movie for the first hour, but by the end (about 2.5 hours) it was not too dark to clearly see. The screw down crown is smooth to adjust and holds tight, although I have yet to try the watch under any significant depth of water. One comment I would make is that it is advertised as a unidirectional bezel, but I have only been able to make it rotate clockwise. This is not a major issue to me, but it is still a little stiff at first to have to rotate one full cycle.
br /
br /To my relief it appears that the mineral glass is made of stern stuff. I really walloped the thing while moving carelessly at speed running out my house and was very please to find it is pretty robust (and very relieved).
br /
br /I purchased the watch from watchsavings.com (saving $125 of the recommended retail value - which I did validate in a jewellery store) and they provided me with speedy delivery and good tracking availability. They included a couple of flyers and offers in the shipping box. My one disappointment is that they did not stamp the warranty book and there is no way to register the watch on the Bulova site. I will keep the receipt with the warranty for future needs if necessary. Hopefully nothing more than a new battery will be needed.
br /
br /You will not be disappointed if you purchase this watch.

br /I would have preferred the metal band to be a bit heavier,
br /overall it is a nice watch.

I have had this watch for almost a year now. I LOVE my Bulova. It is beautiful and keeps great time. The battery went dead after only few months, but no big deal. I am REALLY rough on wathces because I'm not smart enough to take them off when I start out watering the yard and end up changing the oil on my truck. You can't go wrong with this purchase.
