I bought this watch several months ago and have been pleased with it since. It is quality as opposed to those watches you pay less for. One would naturally expect that but in this day and age paying more does not always equal more quality, but in this case it definitely does. The watch is heavy, and the strap is long enough for most any size wrist (no skimping on strap length) and rugged. In fact, this watch is probably made to wear underwater outside the wet/dry suit but it looks great above water in everyday life! I'm thinking already of buying the same watch in the other color (I have yellow and it is impressive, but it comes in another color as well--that's how much I like it).
Very nice, but keep in mind....

This is the exact same as the Seiko SKX173, but that one has a black face, not yellow, and usually sells for $10-$12 less.
br /
br /Like virtually all automatic Seiko watches with the common "7S26" components, the watch keeps very acceptable time, perhaps drifting by a few seconds +/- per day.
br /
br /The watch will run down if not worn for 40+ hours. Not wearing the watch an average of 8 hours/day or not storing it flat on its back can also cause more drift in accuracy than usual.
br /
br /It's also not possible to stop the second hand when setting the running watch to ensure time is perfectly accurate down to the second -- this can be done with battery-operated Seiko diver watches.
br /
br /Check out the battery-operated, quartz-movement Seiko divers if virtually perfect timekeeping is needed and a watch won't be regularly worn. Battery replacement / 200m waterproofing can run pricey on those when needed, however. (It should be noted that Seiko recommends standard checks/maintenance on the automatics every 2 years or so, and similar pricey waterproofing concerns could be encountered there, too.)
br /
br /If a watch is worn regularly/daily and timekeeping within a minute is generally acceptable (and someone wants to test their luck with being one of those who can reportedly go into the decades with a watch being just fine without battery replacement / new waterproofing), the classic automatic Seiko divers like this do the job just fine.
br /
br /Hopefully someday Seiko explores their own solar line of watches once again. For the time being, those seem to have become their Pulsar line of diver watches, which supposedly can last 180 days on a single charge....

Bought this watch while looking for a real airtight water resistent watch to use while swimming- but it had to have a bezel for timing the barbecue. ( my tag heuer keeps getting fogged up and I'm tired of having it repaired). Besides working like a charm at a reasonable price, almost all of my friends have commented on it's good looks. The yellow face makes a unique and positive statement. Also very happy to be out of the battery replacement business. Glad I bought it.

This is a great watch. Not oversized, but enough weight that you can feel it on your wrist. It's an old-fashioned 21-jewel movement mechancial watch.
br /
br /It's classy and elegant, even with the screaming yellow dial. I bought it for diving, but have been wearing it as my everyday watch.

This is a great knock-around watch as well as a great dive watch. If you're thinking of buying one be awhere that it is an automatic watch, once called autowind watch. This watch doesn't use a battery and is wound by the movement of your arm. If you set it down for a couple of days, it will stop. I guess we're all too use to quartz battery watches to remember the old days of winding watches.

I bought this watch two months ago, and I absolutely love it. The face is not too big, not too small. The band is tough, yet it does not get in my way. I am on the computer all day. One of my main criteria for a watch was that the band was not too thick, as thick/metal bands really push on my wrist when I'm typing.
br /
br /I recently took the watch on a diving trip. I am glad I had it! My dive computer actually BROKE while on a dive. I didn't fear, though, because I had my watch on. I used the bright yellow Seiko to perform my safety stops on the way up. The yellow face and glow in the dark strips really allow you to tell the time in any condition. We dove to a max depth of 75 feet, and the watch is still going strong.
br /
br /The one issue I have had with this watch is that, as mentioned, I am on the computer a lot. My wrist may not get a lot of action throughout the day. The first couple weeks, I had problems with the watch stopping (as it gets its power from the winding motion of the wrist). I solved this problem by just shaking the watch for about 30 seconds every morning before I put it on. So far so good.

I had been looking for another diver for some time. Because of the price range I shop in and my prior experiences with Seiko, I decided I'd give them another call. Why yellow? It is a beautiful shade of yellow, not a pale or pastel, but a hot yellow. The rubber strap really makes the yellow stand out and is quite comfortable. This watch is one of the lightest divers I've ever owned, this may be due to the rubber strap instead of the SS bracelet. The SKX line of divers from Seiko are a classic design that employ some of the same technology that has been used since the 60's and 70's. The watch is comfortable and the rubber strap keeps it put. The 7s26 workhorse may not be the most accurate, but it is robust and will last for many years without maintenace. Be wary of watches that are just 200m rated without the words, scuba or diver. Usually the "diver" connotation means that the watch has passed a special ISO test compared to a weaker ISO test for depth rating. Long story short, they are tested to 125% of the rated depth.
br /
br /In short, if you are looking for a well priced diving watch that will grab peoples attention. You cannot go wrong with this watch, or Seiko in general. And also, a rule of thumb, it doesn't have to say "Swiss Made" on the dial to be a good watch. Have a nice day!

What else is there to say about the Seiko SKXA35? This watch is all show. The yellow-faced dial on this classic-styled dive watche makes a bold statement. This is a watch that will get you noticed.
br /
br /This watch is styled like several of the vintage Seiko divers. This watch contains the famous 7S26 Automatic Movement. The 7S26 Movement is available in many Seiko watches and is notorious as Seiko's low-end, workhorse movement. Both watch models, the Seiko SKX173 and the SKXA35, are North American variants of the popular Seiko SKX007. The 007 can be purchased for slightly less money than its North American counterparts (however, I believe Amazon sells 'grey market' 007s, so you might not be covered with an in-country warranty). The SKXA35 comes with a 3-year warranty, which is a pretty nice deal.
br /
br /As previously noted, there are many notorious Seiko Diver Watches housing the 7S26 movement:
br /
br /SKX781 (Orange Monster)
br /SKX779 (Black Monster)
br /SKX007 (Black face, round indicators)
br /SKX009 (Pepsi)
br /SKXA53 ('Black Bullet' - variant of the SKX173/SKXA35)
br /SKXA55 ('Orange Bullet' - variant of the SKX173/SKXA35)
br /
br /And the list goes on. I prefer the square markers over the circular ones found on the SKX007 which is why I gravitated towards the SKX173/SKXA35.
br /
br /Needless to say, the 7S26 is a well-used movement. It is a non-hacking movement meaning that the seconds hand cannot be stopped. Some people find that by applying a slight amount of back pressure to the crown they are able temporarily stop the seconds hand. The movement has a power reserve of "40 hours" which means that you should probably wear it every other day to keep it running. If your power reserve is considerably less than 40 hours there is probably something wrong with your watch.
br /
br /This is an automatic watch. Apparently this fact is beyond some people on Amazon. If you do not wear the watch it will stop. You will need to reset the time. If you are they type of person who does not like to wear your watch daily then do not buy an automatic watch. If you are the type of person who hates setting the time on his watch, do not buy an automatic watch.
br /
br /Simple fact folks. Do your research.
br /
br /
br /As for the accuracy...out of the box my watch has been running approximately 2 or 3 seconds slow every day. The accuracy of your watch depends on several variables:
br /
br /-how long you wear your watch
br /-how you store your watch at night
br /-how the watch came out of the factory
br /
br /The 7S26 is assembled in a factory. It is not regulated beforehand. The accuracy of your watch will vary. Some people report accuracy of +/- just a few seconds a day, other people lose or gain 15 to 20 seconds a day. A gain or loss of 15 seconds a day still falls within Seiko's suggested accuracy of +/-25 seconds a day. In regards to the variables stated above:
br /
br /-the longer you wear your watch the more wound the spring will be, some people report better accuracy when the spring is fully wound
br /-storing your watch on its case back, on its side (crown up), or on its face can cause small drifts in time
br /-some people will get lucky and have a watch with amazing accuracy, other people will not
br /
br /Some people claim that there is a "breaking in" period for the watch to settle. We shall see with my watch, which has consistently lost 2 or 3 seconds every day when stored on its case back overnight.
br /
br /This is a Diver's watch. It is hefty and big, the way dive watches are meant to be. This is a manly watch that has a bold wrist presence. The hot yellow color only adds to the boldness of this watch. The watch features a 120-click uni-direction bezel which feels firm but pleasant to turn. The watch displays both the day of the week and the date. Finally, the markers on the watch are painted with Seiko's proprietary paint called "lumibrite" which causes the watch markers to glow in the dark. The glow lasts surprisingly long for paint that only needs to be charged by a light source.
br /
br /Conclusion: All-in-all Seiko makes a mean automatic dive watch at a VERY affordable price. The 7S26 movement is low-maintenance, cheap and efficient. Seiko also makes some of the best dive watches in the 150~250 price range. The Seiko SKXA35 is a hot, yellow diver. Fans of modern, sporty watches owe it to themselves to check out this affordable and awesome watch.

I've had this watch since December 06' and it's working out great! I really like the yellow face, it's my favorite color, and the whole thing is quite sturdy. The only gripe I have with this watch is the fact that it really does go about 5 minutes too fast a week. I really don't mind that though because adjusting the time is quick and easy, takes a few seconds, and then it's done! I would recommend this watch to anyone who doesn't mind adjusting it now and then.

I really like the watch's looks, but it's time keeping ability is truly lacking. It runs about a minute too fast each day. This is really a nuisance. As much as I hate to be without a watch again, I assume I will have to send the watch back for warranty work...as soon as I can find the time. (No Pun intended)

I can't think of anyone who makes a more robust automatic watch for the money. I have had a half dozen Seiko divers and they have all been exceptionally reliable durable. Accuracy is on par with a mechanical/automatic watch in this price point. +/- 15 seconds per day is pretty normal. If you want/need better accuracy, I would advise you to buy this watch (or a similar Seiko diver) in the quartz version.
br /
br /The yellow dial is very sharp! Really gives it a pop of color and looks great with the black rubber strap.
br /
br /The hardlex crystal will scratch (although less easily than mineral crystal and a LOT less easily than acrylic).....if it had a Sapphire crystal, I would have given it 5 stars. But then again, the price would probably be $50-100 more.

A nice looking, man-sized watch that will get you noticed. The self winding feature is nice, but not wearing it one day means it will wind down and stop. It's not the most accurate watch I've owned, mine gains about 30 seconds per day.

This watch is a great buy. I bought it so I can wear it every day and not abuse my high priced watches. I get compliments all the time and more then when I wear my other watches. I always wore a metal band but the rubber on this one is very comfortable. I did not know you could get such a great watch for this great price.

When I bought this I was looking for a Seiko watch that I could wear on weekends. Love this watch and am very pleased with the performance. Have always been a huge fan of Seiko watches and was not disappointed with this one. The self-winding feature was a definite plus for me. The only thing I don't care for is the weight. Takes a little getting used to, but I still believe it's worth it.

From the reading I've done, the automatic movement used in this watch, the 7S26, is an "entry level" movement, so I wasn't expecting great accuracy, even by mechanical watch standards. And obviously, even a top mechanical movement won't be as accurate as an inexpensive quartz.
br /
br /Pleasant surprise here. In the 3 months that I've had this watch, the drift rate has been about -2 sec per day when I'm wearing it, and about +5 when I leave it on the automatic watch winder. Don't count on getting that yourself, at this price range I suspect there's a lot of variation, and I just got lucky. I also have to note that some other reviewers do note worse performance. However, if you want best case accuracy, a watch repairman can probably regulate one of these to within 5 sec/day or less.
br /
br /No hacking on this movement. What I did was note what the next minute was going to be, and set the minute hand at the moment that the second hand reached 12. Then I noted what the error was at that point, and calculated the drift rate from there.
br /
br /To me this is a very attractive watch. I think the pictures do it justice, so judge for yourself. The luminous hands and markers are very bright in the dark, and the glow lasts a long time.
br /
br /No battery changes of course, but you'll want to get it serviced every few years anyway, and it can sometimes be hard to find a qualified local watch repairman. Depending on where you live, you might have to send it away, and even a simple cleaning and lubrication is going to cost more than most battery replacements.
br /
br /If you just like the idea of having an automatic watch, though, I think this is a bargain.

The Seiko automatic mechanical Diver's Watch SKXA35 fits my 8 3/4" wrist with a hole to spare in the band, which is well designed as the keeper slides but stays put too. The watch has a fine-brushed effect on top, and mirror finished elsewhere, including the stainless steel back (not transparent). The second hand advances 6 times per second. It's warrantied for 1 year internationally and a total of 3 years in the USA by Seiko. WATCHSAVINGS.COM who used Amazon to bill, shipped for free less than 24 hours after ordering, and it arrived on time in perfect condition. The manual is well written in perfect English. I'm very pleased so far. The watch may even last as long as my Rolex that went from 1966 to 2006 before becoming uneconomical to fix. At least the SKXA35 has 21 jewels per the manual!

Finally got one of these, saw them a few years ago and wanted it but they were going for over $300 at the local malls, etc. Had been checking for something else and found this on Amazon and could not order it fast enough, great watch, durable band, maybe a little stiff yet as it's still new. After getting it I googled it and could not find it for a lesser price anywhere, in fact typically quite a bit more elsewhere. It was brand new in a nice, nice box! Last divers watch was a Casio which was about the same price and the band broke in less than one year! It was one of those GShock, the cost of the band replacement is what drove this purchase!

I purchased this Seiko dive watch a few months ago from Amazon. I was immediately impressed by the quality (and heft) of the watch. However, that was tempered by my initial disappointment that the watch ran about one *minute* slow per day. I didn't expect an automatic movement would be as accurate as a quartz movement, but that was simply unacceptable. I then took the watch to a local jeweler/watch repair place and had it regulated (at a cost of about $32). Now it is accurate to within about a second a day. All's well that ends well! It is now my everyday watch and I am very satisfied with it.

A week after purchasing this watch I was diving the Spiegel Grove in the Keys. 130+ feet to the sand. Not a hint of a problem. The watch is easy to read under water and the wrist band is very sturdy and easily fits over a wet suit. Glad I bought it. Amazon delivered as advertised.

I've owned several Seiko automatic watches. I was on travel when this watch arrived, so I didn't receive it until 8 days ago. The first 3 days I wore it, it stopped once or twice a day while I was wearing it. I considered returning it, but for the past 5 days it has not stopped. It may not have been wound sufficiently. Otherwise, it's fine and what I expected.

br /Update: It stopped running again (several times). I tried to return it for a replacement, but Amazon no longer has it in stock. I can't find it anywhere else at the price I originally paid.

I have owned many Seiko Diver's models over the years, and I think I know a thing or two about them. This SKXA35 was delivered quite defective - it runs incredibly fast, about 3 hours per day fast! Something is definitely broken in it, probably in the balance assembly. Seiko's with the 7S26 movement should not exceed + or - 45 seconds per day (this is straight from Seiko). So I am in the process of an exchange. I hope Amazon comes through, because the quality of the watch initially was very impressive, and I loved the yellow dial.

Purchased this watch about 6 months ago, the watch is fairly heavy and seems well built. I liked the yellow as it's not something you see everyday. I have gone swimming with it many times now with no issues but have not gone diving yet.

br /I wanted an automatic as I like the idea of something mechanical happening rather then relying on another computer chip in my life. I have had automatics before and have had very good experiences with them but this one runs very fast. It runs at least 3 minutes fast a week and after two weeks its easily 5-8 minutes fast which is just enough to get me off schedule an proves to be quite annoying.
br /
br /While I have been wearing this watch almost everyday for the last 3 months the edges still seem sharp and are enough to create a red mark on my wrist. I generally take if off when I sleep as most dress shirts do not easily slide over this large watch and require me to take the watch off or unbutton the sleeve.
br /
br /In general I am ok with this watch but it's not a favorite, it's not comfortable enough that I forget I'm wearing it, and it requires resetting every other week at least. The good things are that it is very easy to read, the face really lights up in the dark and it seems fairly rugged. I was attracted to it due to the looks and price point but am somewhat disappointed that it does not keep better time.

It's a very good looking watch and is fine for swimming and diving. Visibility under water is very good. However, my experience over the past month has been that you need to wear it at least every other day or it will stop running. In addition, the casing is very thick (I guess not for a diving watch) and it doesn't fit comfortably under standard shirt sleeves and jackets. As a result I use it mainly for recreation, I don't use it for work.

I loved this watch from when I got it about 7 months ago until a few days ago. It basically just stopped working. I had been wearing it all day, so I know it should have been working, but when I looked down, it had stopped about two hours earlier. It seems sturdy, the luminescent areas light up brightly, and I got a lot of compliments. Now I'll need to send it in for repair. I'm hoping for the best.

br /Update on 3/8/05 : I sent it in for repair, and the turn-around time was about five weeks or so. During the repair process, I was unable to reach anyone by phone, so I just had to send the watch in with a note. This seems a little weird to me, but it worked out fine.

It has been a long time since I have owned a dive watch, and this is the first automatic watch I have had. I really like the way the watch looks, and the visibility of the face is great. I work at a desk for long days, but I have not had problems with the watch running down at night. It has only run down one time when I did not wear it for an extended period. It is a little thick, but probably no more so than a lot of dive watches. I really just have 2 complaints:
br /1) For some reason, I can't get the band to fit comfortably. I am between hole sizes, and I guess the band is not flexible enough to make one of these work.
br /2) It seems to be a little fast. Probably only a minute or so a week, but I expected a lot better than that. As I type this, it is 5 minutes ahead, which is a little too much to be useful.

I own several dive watches and this one is wonderful, only issue is that, you really need a watch winder otherwise it will stop, require rewinding. Face clear large, and works well.

In the advertisement, it says this is a Seiko Men' s Automatic Diver Watch, but, it is a Kinetic watch. Moreover, it was not made in Japan, but Malaysia. All of the Seiko watches that I have had worn before were made in Japan. All Seiko watches were made in Japan, that is why I bought Seiko watches. I am very disappointed.

I thought this watch was awesome! I wore it for several days in a row and it worked great. Then, I didn't wear it for one day, and it stopped running, so I had to wind-it and reset the date/time.
br /
br /If you have a few watches that you like to switch between, like I do, this watch probably isn't for you. It must be worn EVERYDAY in order to work consistently. Even just deciding not to wear it for one day will make it stop working, then require resetting. To me this was a big nuisance, and I didn't realize this before I bought it. Wish Seiko made it with a battery, solar-power, or kinetic battery, then this watch would be perfect.
