I just got this watch yesterday but I love it already.
*UPDATE: (7/23/06): Had the watch for a few months, and I still love it.

Some measurements: The watch is EXACTLY 8 mm thick. 37 mm outer diameter, but the crown sticks out 3 mm. Band is 20 mm at the watch and 18 mm all the way around.

Doesn't feel too heavy, but has good weight to it -- doesn't feel cheap!

I re-sized the links myself, but it was kind of a pain. The links do NOT use a standard pin mechanism. Instead, it uses little plates which are removable. You'll need some kinda pointy tool, with a tip that measures about 0.5 mm. You just push the link plate in the direction of the arrow (there's an arrow mark on each band link to help you) and it should just pop out. If you're not handy you'll definitely want to take the watch to a shop. The good news is, there's really no risk of scratching the band while performing this operation. You'll only scratch the inner "plates."

The band is shiny brushed stainless steel, and has a standard clasp. No spring loaded mechanism, no safety clasp--just the plain old clasp. But I wouldn't worry about accidently releasing your clasp since it's a nice sturdy fit. In fact it requires some force to take the watch off (or put it on) but that might be because it's brand new.

I plan to change the band to a black leather band, just because I don't like the weight of the metal. It should be easy because the band attatchment to the watch is a standard pin.
*UPDATE: (7/23/06) - Looks great with black leather strap.

The Lumibright stuff really works. Only a few minutes of light will let the little dots glow for hours. The dots are small though, so I had to put the watch near my face to read it. But that's much better than my fossil watch which stops shining in less than an hour.

On the day dial, Saturday is BLUE and Sunday is RED. I like that, but it's not really advertised anywhere. Also, the daty can be set for Spanish. (I think it's spanish.. not sure?) The sideeffect is, the day will read spanish between 1~4AM. Likewise, if you set your day language as Spanish the day will read in English between 1~4am. I think the date changes from 12~1AM. Also, the day/dates are BIG and easy to read. They're not HUGE, just nice and readable. If you have normal eyesight, you won't have to squint or even hold the watch up close to read the day/date. I can easily read it whlie typing.

Overall, the watch looks very plain but classy. But it's definitely not HIP. I'm 25 years old and I think it'll make me look older. In fact wearing the watch makes me FEEL older. It'll probably go well with any clothing except a T-shirt, cause I just can't imagine wearing it on the beach. The black face really makes it look "refined." The words SEIKO is rather large and it's actually raised from the watch dial face. The watch surface is highly polished SS, but the side of the watch is shiny brushed ss.

The watch crystal is perfectly FLAT. Nothing is raised, there is no separate date window. It smudges easily but also cleans easily.

*UPDATE: (7/23/06) - The watch's clicking noise is not loud but noticeable in a very quiet room. Can't hear it in all but silent rooms, but then again you might be able to hear it ticking when you're falling asleep.

Lastely, the watch comes in a REALLY NICE blue gift box with the watch wraped around a tiny watch pillow. I think it'll be a great gift. The box is big, about 3 inches tall, 5 inches deep and 4 inches wide.

I worked on watches for three years, and I know Seiko watches are one of the best. I gave this watch to my fiance who said it was the nicest thing anyone has ever gotten him. It is high in quality and low in price; I got the best deal.

Looks nice, stainless steel is quite shiny, but not too flashy and the face size fits my wrist well, not too big like a 43mm. Everything about it seems classy, and fitting it was easy even though it was my first time removing a band piece from a watch.

This is a well built very handsome watch at this price. Durable enough to wear during construction work but nice enough to wear out. I think this watch is the perfect all around watch. A great purchase, recommended by a friend.

I bought this watch last month and am very happy with it. The watch looks really nice. The black face with the silver hands and hour markers looks great and you will never have to worry about this watch going out of style. It was very easy to adjust the band on this watch. I had never adjusted a band before and was able to do it in only a half hour or so using a safety pin. I am impressed with everything about this watch. The clasp seems to be very solid and it has never opened unless i was trying to open it. I went to Macys and they were selling this same watch for $135, so amazon is a great deal. The only thing that I wasnt very impressed with is the lumibright glow in the dark markers on the watch. They are very small and the watch doesnt glow very bright.

I'm just out of college and working and wanted to get a watch that I felt was professional but good for everyday use (buying multiple watches while paying off student loans isn't practical). I like the classic look that doesn't seem dated. I'm not into all the bells and whistles, just something that looks good and tells time. Also I was happy with the size of the watchface, full but not overbearing, because I am a runner, not a baseball player, hence smaller wrists. I feel comfortable wearing this to work, out on a date, or at formal events. I'd still use a digital for working out or strenuous outdoor activities, but this is good anywhere else.

This is a great conservative looking watch, very accurate - in 6 months it fell behind justs 10 seconds.

I have had this watch for about a month and I relly love it! It's looks really nice and seems to be really good quality. The only minor problem that a person might have is the sizing of the watch band. I took it to a watch store to have it sized and the person that sized the watch commented that the links in the band are larger than normal. So, when you take one out it really shrinks the size. But, I seemed to still get a good fit with it. I would definitely buy this watch again.

I have to say first I'm not a watch person. If I didn't need to know the time for work I wouldn't even think about wearing one. That said, I got this to replace a broken Citizen, which was very thin and fairly small. This is much larger, but despite that it's pretty comfortable. Not heavy at all. The large dial is also nice for my aging eyes to read and the glowing hands are great at night. It's also a nice looking watch, dressy enough without being stodgy. If it's as sturdy as other people here have said, I expect I will be wearing it for a long time. I don't understand the problem people have setting the language for the day of the week. I guess it comes down to reading the directions, which are minimal but sufficient to set it up. A darned nice watch for the money.

I have been very pleased with this watch so far, and with my purchase experience through Amazon. I have had better watch band clasps before, but this one isn't too bad. It's just a little more prone to catch on things since the back side doesn't lay completely flat.

My friends purchased this watch for me in 1998 as a graduating college/leaving for the Army gift. I have worn it daily for nine years. It survived the hardships of an Army lifestyle (I wore it daily then, too) and is still going strong. I have replaced the battery once and had to have the date bezel removed (the thin silver border) because it popped out after my toddler daughter beat on it on the ground various times (yes, I should have moved it to a higher location). The lens has minor scratches, but nothing that deters from its simple function and aesthetic charm. This watch has never failed me. It is simply the best, most durable, watch that I have ever owned.

My brother was excited to get his Seiko watch. He loved the packaging, the weekend colour being different from the weekdays, and the simplicity of the design. Only critisism was the weight to which he quickly adjusted. Classy looking watch and band.

This is the second Seiko watch I have owned, the first one for 8 years and it wasn't longer because my line of work is active and I am tough on stuff. I have owned two other watch brands over the past four years (primarily due to convenience buying) but when the second one broke, I thought I might as well invest a little time (bad pun intended) on my next purchase. Just got the watch today. The timepiece seems great, I like the style of the band. But, could the band possibly have been any SMALLER? I'm a big guy with large hands, and not-huge wrists. I could barely get the watch on over my hand. Had I attempted to actually wear it, I would have lost the hand in half an hour! It was THAT tight, on its LARGEST setting.

So, now I have my brand-new watch at a repair shop, where they hope to be able to find a couple of matching links to add to the band. I'll be without the watch for two weeks, and will spend nearly half what I spent on the watch to be able to actually wear it! Kinda disappointing, Seiko!

This is my third Seiko watch over a 34 year period. This watch is exactly as described and keeps excellent time. The style is classic and the lines are clean and unobtrusive. I really like the brushed finish on the link band. Being a conservative dresser, I was looking for something clean and simple, yet elegant. As a short man (5'5") I found most watch faces too large, making it look like I was a little boy wearing 'daddy's watch'. While this may look like it has a large face, the size is in proportion with the band and does not come across looking big.

Ok, I'm going to be as straight to the point as possible. I don't usually write reviews about items I owed or used but I ran into this watch on this site and thought I can write about it. I've had this watch for well over 4 years...I'm not exactly sure when I purchased this watch but it really has to be well over 4 or 5 years. I wear this watch 4 or more times a week since this is my "work week" watch. Sometimes I even wear it or regular ocasions. I'm very happy with this particular watch. It was a cheap purchase, that I thought would serve its purpose for work. Yet this watch looks and feels hundreds of dollars more expensive. On several occacions I've had a few people at work get it confused with a Rolex. Still ticking under the same battery...that's wright I haven't had to replace the battery yet. Always on time, never gets ahead or late. The date feature works just like its supposed to work. Very little scratches overall...just some on the bracelet locking mechanism and one small scratch in the crystal face that is hardly even noticable. I really recommend this product with all my faith. Specially if you are just looking for a cheap in price, expensive in style watch for work.

This watch is larger than I expected. I have a 20 year old Seiko that looks exactly like this one but is only about 3/4 the size of this one. That is what I expected. This is, however, a nice watch that has kept perfect time. I would buy it again.

Very handsome easy-to-read face and date window; especially like the day/date display. Most watches in this price range feature date only. Excellent value.

The links are not hairy-arm friendly, so the bracelet on the watch becomes a slow, painful hair-removal device. If we cannot find a way to put a leather band, or other hair-friendly type of band on it, he will not be able to wear it.
For those without hairy arms, it is a lovely, simply designed, slim line watch. The recipient really loves it!... just can't wear it.

My Seiko is everything you could ask for in an inexpensive watch. My identicle Seiko was purchased 25 years ago for the same price and all that was needed was a battery every 5 years. Great value!

6 months ago I bought an Invicta diver-style watch (for a few more dollars!) and, while attractive, it was cumbersome ("heavy") on the wrist, hooked on things a lot (finally broke the band at the pins, twice), and had a date window that was nearly impossible to read due to a "magnifying window". This Seiko has similar size of dial/look/feel to the Invicta, but is absolutely svelte in comparison. Feels great on the wrist. Time setting knob is smaller and MUCH easier to deploy (the Invicta had a an O-ring seal that was difficult to set). Band is same style/link design as the Invicta's but about 2/3 the weight (plenty strong!) and has a much nicer squeeze-latch on the clasp. Day AND date are large and clear. The Seiko automatic movement, like the Miyota on the Invicta, has a trasparent back. Hey at $75 shipped, this Seiko is a steal. The Invicta with the broken band goes in the drawer....

I had the exact same watch for 5 or 6 years and the stem got snagged and broke. I was very pleased to find this at the bargain amazon price. In stores the watch goes for around $100 + tax which in NY equated to $8.00.

I'm a watch lover. I've got 20 watches in my "common rotation." This watch is one of my favorites. It feels as solid as my Rolex. It's not too heavy. It does its job perfectly. One of my oldest watches is a 26 year old Seiko which still runs. Seiko makes great, long lasting watches that don't need much care or feeding.

I purchased this watch for my husband as a stand-in while his usual timepiece was being repaired. We were both amazed to see how sharp this watch looks in person. It keeps time very well and I don't think he even misses his regular one. He wears a suit most days and the watch complements his attire. The styling is classic and very well done at that. I have been pleasantly surprised by this Seiko. You get a really big (understated) bang for your buck. At a glance it looks like a Rolex. Upon closer inspection, the design still looks like a Rolex but with Seiko's signage. If you like clean lines you'll love the looks and performance of this watch. It's definitely sharp.

Great looking watch and a reasonable price. But little, if any, mention is made of the need to check for the proper date at the end of the month and correct it if the month has less then 31 days. I didn't realize this when I bought the watch as I'm used to digital watches that always have the correct date. Still a great looking analog watch. Just remember to check the date when the month changes.

My son absolutely loves it and has gotten lots of compliments on it.

Got my dad one for father's day and the stem unwound itself and came off in his hand. You can screw it back in but not tight enough to function. We're mailing it back for service.

I'd recommend a Seiko 5 from eBay instead for the same money (my father is too old to keep an automatic running). They're famous for going 15-20 years without maintenance. I have two. If you need a quartz, go with Casio.

I got this watch for my boyfriend for Valentines Day. He is very happy with the watch, he comments all the time how classy the watch looks and is overall very happy with the product. The watch is pretty much as decribe I have no complaints. Watch came with pretty pillow and box and warranty information. Personal I feel the watch is well worth the money it looks simple and classy! The watch was exactly as I expected. Clean, elegant, accurate, and easy to read. I have 100% confidence in Seiko. My previous watch I had for 12 years. In the time I owned it I never changed the battery once and it never lost a second! Simply a quality, reliable timepiece.

I bought this watch when it was on sale thru Amazon for 57 bucks and have been impressed with it. It's a great everyday watch, that is both stylish and functional. (The fossil with the velcro band doesn't quite cut it for those impromtu client meetings). For those trying to adjust the band, try moving the clasp link first. I did this and after a few notches up, the watch fits just fine. No need to remove any links.
br /The only thing I don't like is my days are off, so when it reaches 12 (noon or midnite) either the date or day change. I'm thinking about setting the date exatcly at midnite to solve this problem.

I bought this a little over a year ago. It works well and looks great. My only complaint is that the date/day change control seems a little sensitive.
br /Every couple of months though the day reads wrong. I don't think it is from the watch failing to change days, but instead, it seems that my sleeve or jacket will rub against the control causing a day or date change. You see, changing the day or date requires pulling out the knob on the right hand side of the watch and then turning it. It appears during normal wearing of the watch, ever once in a while, the knob gets pulled part way out and the day gets changed. However, all I need to do is catch the problem and push the knob back in.
br /Other than that, the watch is clean, and wears great. At night reading the time is easy, as the hands and number markers have precisely manufactured glow-in-the-dark sections. Because the sections appear to be made to exacting standards, only the wearer can see the glow. (Real important if you don't want people being distracted by your glowing wrist...)

This watch is absolutely beautiful. It has a nice weight to it and it is clean and classy. If your man enjoys sophistication as opposed to flashy watches then this is a best bet. It's face is shiny and handsome but is simple enough to wear to work, yet dressy enough to wear out on the town.

I bought this watch recently and I am very happy with it. There is one thing that is hard to appreciate from just pictures: the minute hand, hour hand, and 12 hour markers are faceted. This creates a beautiful and dynamic shimmering effect (especially on the hour markers) when the light hits the watch at the right angle.

Put the watch next to your ear and, as you might expect, you will hear it. Move it 8-10 inches from your ear, and you will not hear it (apparently excepting those with extraordinary hearing or sensitivity). This is an attractive, light, and practical [day and time, glow-in-the dark hands and marker] timepiece. Amazon's price even beats Kohls with 33% off plus 15% pick-a-day.

What the photos don't show is that this is a large, clunky watch-- much larger and heavier than my vintage Omega Constellation, which it was intended to replace. I plan to return it.

I had a hard time adjusting the date. During my first several try, the watch stucked once but it went well later. However, I am still not sure whether I need to adjust date every month or other month since it looks there are 31 days every month.

Great watch, quality is high, looks nice, slim watch, overall excellent. I saw an old man wearing it and I told him nice watch and pointed out I had the same watch, he said I've had it for 11 years without any problems its a good watch, I asked how many times have you replaced the battery and he said only one time he thinks, so overall its a sturdy watch. The main reason I took one star off is because you can actually hear it click if you're in a quiet room and the face dial looks a bit plain for my taste, but it does have that elegant/classic look.

I purchased this watch over the titanium version and couldn't be more pleased. The watch satisfies all that I wanted in terms of function, quality, in a classy, simple style. Even the way it illuminates in the dark is simple and perfect. The band is stainless and probably will not scratch as easily as the titanium version seems too. I'm not sure why anyone would purchase the titanium version - even the weight of this watch is perfect. Overall, this watch is a GREAT value...there's no reason to hesitate buying this watch!

This watch has everything I was looking for - hour hand, minute hand, second hand and day/date, wow what more could you ask for! AND you can adjust them. I like the flex band so it always fits perfectly.

I bought and wore this watch for about a year and loved it. I never had any problems with it and it kept impeccable time. I only retired it when I upgraded to a much nicer watch.

First of all it was on sale. Second I broke my old watch so momentum was definitely there. I ordered, got them on time and I like from look#1. Face is not overloaded with different hands, you are able to get time for single glance. Calendar is handy as well, face and hands are glowing in dark very intensive. Even watch has pretty dress look, it got through kayak trip flawlessly.

Have had the watch about a month. Very satisfied with the prompt processing and delivery by Amazon. The watch itself has performed well, inasmuch as one can determine that in such a short time span. Had no trouble setting day and date, as instructions were clear. Getting the stem in the right position to set day and date was a little tricky, but I've never had a watch where that wasn't the case. Very happy with the appearance of this watch. No frills, but solid in look and feel. I believe that Seiko is the parent company of Epson. Since I've had a Epson printer (R1800) with which I've been extremely pleased, going to Seiko for a watch was almost a no-brainer (have to be careful using that expression - comes too close to the truth at times).

Smart, unfussed, classic black faced design. Matt s/steel bracelet with shiny bevel. Nicely weighted, perfect size. I love it - it is my "everyday" watch. My one criticism lies with the date display - I have been struggling to set the day in English. Everytime I set the date and day in English, then later that day it ticks over to Spanish!!! Most frustrating. I have read similar complaints from other reviewers. I hope that my local jeweller can rectify this... This is why I have given this exquisite watch 4 stars.

I had an unprofessional looking yellow Citizen Navitach sports watch, so I figured it was time for a new watch I can actually not be ashamed of wearing in the office. This watch is absolutely gorgeous. I totally love how it looks. But, as mentioned by a previous reviewer, this watch is noisy. Normally it's not a problem but if you are sitting in a chair trying to read a book, every so often you will hear the watch tick, depending on the position of your hand. Even at a significant distance, you will hear the watch tick. It's hard enough to concentrate over a long period of time, and I just can't stand any other stupid distractions like this. In contrast, I can barely hear my Citizen watch EVEN if push it directly against my ear! It is a little bit thicker, but still, the glass is probably of better quality or I don't know what else. In any case, I am upset because I can't find another watch that's as elegant on all of Amazon, even for hundreds more. In every other respect, it's perfect. If you are not much of a reader, I would say definitely go for this watch.

I think this watch is great. It is easy to adjust the time, and the wrist band. In addition, this watch has day and date calendar. The only problem I encountered is the scratch on the cover of the watch. I think I might hit the watch on the wall, causing two tiny scratches on the cover of the watch.

I wore this watch for about 18 months before a piece of the watch snapped off and it no longer could be worn. Its a decent watch, but its of inferior quality compared to other watches in the 60-90 dollar price range. Be wary of the durability of this watch as it is just not made well enough to last more than 18-24 months.

Bought 2 new seiko watches, 1 men's and 1 women's. Both completely fogged up whenever it was humid out. Both were very expensive. For that price
br /they should have been waterproof. Will never buy Seiko again.

I purchased this watch as a birthday present for my husband. When he opened it he noticed that the days of the week were in both Spanish and English, and there doesn't seem to be a way to set it to just one or the other, since there were limited instructions with the watch. By the time he looked at it there was no way for us to return it for a refund. Not happy

I like it,but I don't like box's watch which obsolescence.I hope my boy friend will love it

I was very disappointed with the quality of this watch..i even doubt whether its a genuine seiko watch.Its so light like its made from cheap material from the street..iam in the process of sending it back..the watch is not just real

be careful, it got scratched easily and the battery would be dead the first week you got it if you are unlucky

br /if it works fine, no problem. if not, it would be a pain to deal with the customer service, as all the online retailers.
